Wait a minute, I just saw the Graphics Links... I'll check there... but I'm trying to learn how to put an image onto a terrain.. like a runway or helo pad.

what programs are you using?(for new terrains)
If it's in the med you need to place the approprite tile..

Wildman, I'm using Terragen and PSP 8.
I've been experimenting with placing images in the terrain by placing the image in or as the .tga and not having much success.
Im still not 100% sure as to the exact problem could you please give just a weee bit more info on ."not having much success"It is a little vauge.
You could you post a pic of the problem with the tga maybe that would help ..
Sorry, there is no pic to post... I saw a map (can't remember the name of the mission) but it has an airport on it, with two runways and helo pads and cross-connecting taxi-ways, etc.. I've been trying to figure out how that map was made.
I can put a picture of an airport runway on the .tga, and in MED it looks like a runway, but when you actually "play" the map, it's not there. Well, it may be there, but the surface textures are completely unplayable with giant peaks and valleys.
Ahh, I guess you've merged that pic of the airport runway onto the depthmap instead of the colormap (or both). Do it only for the colormap (_c.). However, if it's gonna be flat (runways usually are, lol), you'll either need to merge it onto a flat area in the terrain, OR you'll need to adjust the depthmap (_d.) as well, so that it will be flat in that area. Hope this helps.
(Btw - the advice above is based on my crude experience with DF2 terrains.... I hope the same things go for LW terrains as well...)
q-dad is correct sounds like you merged the pcx not the tga
if you take that airport image and make it grayscale then make it all a med dark gray color then merge it into the pcx(hieght map) in the same exact spot as the tga it may look ok as long as you blend the edges of the grayed airport area on the pcx...
you may have to play with the grey color of the airport image to match the terrain a little closer before blending..then push outwards from the greyed airports edges
