    Auto Target In Multiplayer

Seems the popular squads prefer Auto-Target.

Okay here's my beef with it:

    1. Usually both people die at once, you fire and I fire, we both go down.

    2. It makes it near impossible to develop counters for - i.e. avoid other than using flares - which tend to be rather useless due to the fact the person shot 4 - 5 missiles at you in an 'auto target mode'.

    3. It makes it too easy to attack - it's all a matter of spinning and altitude (nothing else it appears).

So I was on a DM server and the person had everything except auto-target on.

Wow, it truly changes the dynamics in the game - it really requires a person becareful on the attack, and do a lot of maneuvering to avoid the cross-hairs of the enemy, at the sametime the enemy is doing the same.

Your missiles will target, but you have to have an exact yellow cross-hair and it requires very precise flying - it's easy to get in a close combat battle and the winner is the best flyer, aimer, and shooter - not just the good spinner or person at a lucky altitude.

    Some questions:

    1. Why do popular squads choose auto-target on for their servers?

    2. Why do people prefer auto-target?

    3. Is it more challenging or less challenging when auto-target is on or off?

I'm thinking of upgrading my DSL's bandwidth and running a seperate computer with a Comanche 4 dedicated server. If I do this would any join it? I'd be using Auto Explode and turning off Auto-Target - most likely running it DM (I don't see the purpose in TM DM most of the time, no one protects each other and it just means less people to kill - but that's probably for another topic).

    Whew - lots of typing.

    I'll let you guys reply.

Though I haven’t played much death match on other servers I think auto target anything is kind of pointless and not challenging at all. I use to play Rogue Spear with friends and they always had to have auto targeting on, you start to feel like a machine after a while with pointing, shooting and moving on, you could run through a map with out even stopping to ask directions taking down tangos. I would just shut mine off and play along but of course I always got the least kills. In the aspect of Comanche4 I do understand that without auto targeting and trying to line your Comanche up in such a way takes some skill and time so in the same sense auto targeting would make the action run faster and everyone would have the same chance of getting kills. I’m more for stealth and cunning no matter what I play. Using some skill to eliminate hostiles is something I tried to design in any of my user mission maps and of course they are mostly single player missions so you can use the features designed into the comanche, pop up, strafe, noe, etc. Not so easy on a death match server, I’ve tried. I guess taking to the air and holding down the fire button is a sport in itself so if your more interested in working for a kill then I would say starting your own server for C4 is a good thing to do, that way you set the rules and the pace. You may be surprised as to how many people would join.
