If you haven't noticed, Guardian added an Avatar Gallery to the forum.
The link to it is on the top of this page (only works for registered users)
It's very simple to use, if you want to use one, just select an Avatar from the ones shown & hit "Update my Avatar"
Again, if you have a custom avatar or signature, read the other topic in this forum.
