    How to?

Does anyone know how to use the dxtex program. It opens the dds files but thats all I can do. Or should I say. Id like to add a small patch like arm patch or something to the charachters uniform. With my squads tag on it. But cant seem to figure it out. Anyone know how to do this.

Please dont use the CH...s word. I cant stand it. I think people complain too much. Just make the best of it and finish the game.

    Editing the Uniform

Rüstinsk gave an excellent explanation of editing dds files here.

    Using the Dxtex Tool

And of course, I'm sure you already know that you will be the only one to see this change... unless someone else is using the same character you are or has uploaded the change in your dds files to their pff file.

    Hope this helps.

    Skin files

For future reference, you need to specify the game for which you are requesting information. This answer is based on a texture change for TFD. Also, you need to make backup copies of the .pff files before tampering with them, which is essentially what a 'skin change' is doing.

First, go to the downloads section and download FWO Raven's pff extractor. Then open the data file ( *.pff ) of the game you are changing the skins in. Filter for .pcx files and extract them to a folder. Find and edit your file and put the
    file into your TFD directory.

If you have deleted the file from the .pff data file, add the "space" /d command to the end of the shortcut to your program. If you have not, you may pack the file into your pff data file by putting the edited file into the directory and making a small batch command in notepad and saving as something like packskin.bat into the same directory. The batch file's command line that packed the .tga file on this page looks like..

    pack terrains.pff sign_oj.tga

Double click on the batch file and voila -its changed. If this last part is too complicated, there are programs that pack the .pff files for you. But a word of caution here - you are modifying a data file and can find yourself in trouble in a hurry by tampering with it.

Unless everyone has the modified .pcx files installed, you will be the only one to see the change.

Edited to change: Sorry about that .dds mixup - those are for C4 and I think BHD.

check your pm. I have a plugin for Adobe that allows you to open dds files directly. I tried d/l BHD again but got corrupted with 3hrs to go

After reading this thread, I tried opening a dds file from the Comanche demo.......and it wouldn't work, can you send me a dds file from BHD?

Here's the link for the dds file import/export plugin----->dds plugin

Worked with Directx 8, but not with Directx9 (demo version)
    Also worked with psp7

If it doesn't work for someone........just delete it.

    Thanks Rot

Extras include command line tools that allow the extraction of the MipMaps from the dds..as well as allow you to combine them into a single file again...

But the real kicker is that timesaving thumbnail viewer...

    Kool beanz Blue
Still doesn't work for me, but Deep exploration does .

They did a great job on those weapon textures, along with the others of course.
