    Odyssey Mod for C4

    A weeks ago I put a few screen shots up of a mod in progress, At this point the mod is about half complete, I have over a 100 and 50 hours in this so far. There are over 60 new items tested and packed in the game, The website is up. how-ever the space page is under construction, the items are done just havent taken screen shots yet, The urban warfare items are not completed yet and there are some more military items I want to create.

    With that said here is a link to the site, with more information. At this time if there are some assets the community would like in the mod now is the time to say so.

    Once we have downloaded your update, would we still be able to play C4 in the usual way?

    This is not an update, it is a full revamp of C4. It will not touch any install of C4 you have when you install it. The mod does not install into your currant c4 install and uses none of those files.

    Odyssey will install as a complete game of it's own. It will have a diff icon than the original C4, so you can tell them apart at a glance.

    There are 2 reasons for this, first I didn't want this to effect any other mod you have installed. Second most of the orginal C4 objects are being replaced, Or altered so they can not be used in a stock server.

    As far as game play goes, you will join and host just as you do now, There will be weapon changes similar to the 1 hit mod. There are no changes being made to the way you can fly, The new Black Ops skins do not effect how you fly, they are the same for both teams now, ie red doesn't get desert camo and blue gets stuck with green.

    Because the new items are at a larger scale, some with lights and other reasons the mod will use more resources and have more effect on performance than C4 does now.

    Some other game play notes:
    OD is designed for version 1.5 there will be no error crash points, No counts are more likley to happen to players with fast fire macros.

    The reason for version 1.5 is the way you can still hand edit and save the config file for unlocked game types.

    OD is not camper friendly, if you sit and passive shoot most of the time you will get killed. You can not passive shoot as far in OD

    There are large flat areas and even a few flat terrains for some large building sites, bigger than anything in C4 now, some maps will be designed so players use the buildings and objects for cover instead of terrain.

    The site only shows part of the items for the mod, the space items should be up sometime this weekend.

    I expect to update mod information every few weeks even if I take a break and there is nothing to report till OD is released.

    RGR that Reaper....... I can’t wait......

    Can you please turn on the auto respaun timer (in the config file) for 3 sec's to help stop invis.

    Is it an idea instead of reducing the passive distance (to stop campers) could you make campers auto explode within 30secs if no grid movement/change detected.
    Or can you simply make the helicopter unable to turn left or right when the engine is off? This is a huge flaw that helped make the term "campers" it was one of the bigest flaws in C4, along with the respaun timer bieng turned off. (that helped make pilots invis all the time)

    Looks really sweet Reaper! I like the fact the flying (controls and handling) will be the same as C4.....sure would like to be involved in the beta testing when you get it up....looking forward to the release!

    Respawn will be set at 5 secs to help with network lag also, however since that is a config setting the server can change it back.

    I am not a programmer, changing flight properties would require someone to edit the game code in the exe file. Chances are it would break another part of the game, maybe making spawn rape a bigger problem if you were to lose spawn armour.

    The weapons settings and maps will be set up for faster game play, you can still passive target, just not as far. Spawns will be closer together so players will not have the flight time to get to the action stock Nova maps do.

    But to be honest campers havent been a problem of late, just the trailers get in the way!!

    Very nice work, you should promote your mods in the Nova forums. Not only would it be a way of advertising your mod, but possibly draw more attention to the game and hopefully a few new players.

    Game programmers put things in the game to better access parts of the game to save time when they program.

    example td:
    The programmer is at the point where they are beta testing the combat in multi player so they put td in to see where the other players are.

    Most of the items are removed before the game goes gold however sometimes they miss stuff.

    The bottom line is it was hidden in the game, players never had access to it un-till someone hacked the game and found it. So if you use it, the other players don't, many don't even know it's there, makes it a cheat ie using a hidden game setting to gain an advantage.

    Not to sound like an ASS Reaper, but like you said: Yes, many software programmers do use utilize other programs to make life and or work easier when codding software, BUT like you said: ie: Quote:

    The night vision evn I bought into c4 uses a bin file you need to use a hack tool to create, most of the meds used to map were hacked to open up the utility so it could map better, the KOTH games and other locked games if I can get them to play will reqiure some kind of hacking to make them work. I could go on but you see my point.


    Well your point is mute, NO software builder would EVER--- leave any Exe. file left in a software release unless they were intending to use it for either an additional release of either an upgrade or What some would call an Easter Egg...for future gaming when the game has run it's course.


    Even though like you stated before you used a HACK to read the EXE file of C4 to make your MOD, and I'm saying you are not wrong for doing so... What I am saying is when someone comes along and breaths life back into a game and keeps the interest for YOU like---------------~DOC~--------------

    You must keep in mind That I assume that ~Doc~ did so to keep the game ALIVE but after posts claiming this was a cheat, even though he tried to let EVERYONE now about an EXE command that was left in the software by Novalogic he was Chastised by YOU and several others for letting it be known it was there, You are NOW letting it be known now that you have hacked the software to take the the game to another level even though you have nothing even close to being evolved with the Novalogic gaming team. All I am saying is keep up the good work and lets keep the game ALIVE even if Nova Chooses not to support it.

    Just keep in mind that there are several other command line extensions that could be utilized with in the command line that where built into the gaming engine for Comanche by Novalogic, that has still not been released like TD and there are, trust me, but just keep up the good work and you MAY see in the near future..... not a C5 but a C4 1.25

    Are you sure, this is the same company that released a game with errors in both game versions scoring, left the option to use coop enemy strenth setting so it worked in the other multi player game types, left a bad collision box on the tunnel so players could hide glitch in it and other game issues when they released C4.

    That was just C4 I have every game they built on this game engine from release, So does the other person I do most of my online game play with.
    I can tell you they all had problems with programming errors found after they released each of them. Then other errors created from patches.

    But even if you are right, why was it not left as an open game option or config file setting.

    Any mod I ever released to the public was either ran server side or the player using the mod did not have an advantage as in the night vision. The other players with out the file had a day evn load so they had the advantage, if that was not the case I would not have released it.

    None of this matters to me anyway, I am sure other players are running command line exploits other players don't know about, I am sure other players are running cheats they wrote them selves. I don't play open servers enough to face players who make an exuse to juice weapons, run no fog cheats or td. Even if I could code I would not waist my time trying to stop cheaters, I don't play enough with them to care.

    As for the mod, I am not doing it for the community, I create and play with the game items and build maps like other people paint, write or do any thing creative I do it for fun. If Nova had the same comanche game play in Joint Ops I would not even look at C4. The game is 10 times better to map and mod.

    I spent the weekend killing space ships and star fighters using the comanche.
    Worked on a tracked arctic cat for the arctic section of the mod. Then finished up working on some terrains. My weekend was all game time for me, That was at least 72 hours in my 3 day weekend. My kids are all raised, my time is all mine now, I never even played with another player all week end.

    Releasing it to other players is just the end result, I don't even care if anyone plays it.

    That is the long way of saying it doesn't matter to me what the rest of you do. I don't even care if anyone playes C4 or not.

    But any one who spends their game time playing online with other players should know how they play effects rather other players want to play C4. Unless you really like the single player lol.
