keep it going reap. max is actually one of the easier 3d programs to use - with a very intuitive interface.

just fyi... in case you haven't run into it yet. there is a cap on collision size.

    Re: killing time

Maybe you guys could help troubleshoot an issue im having.
I built a simple building in max based upon Doc Evils tut at the TXP site.
Everything worked fine in it, but when I go to the OED, my skin shows in the Material Editor, but it doesn't show when I hit Render or Render All.
Of course when its in the game it just shows as an ugly gray box.

It happened once before and it was an easy fix, but that was a year ago and I cant remember what it was i did wrong.

Make sure the texture is in a folder assigned to the OED, the name is not to long and in a format OED uses. ie .tga for example

    Re: killing time

yes its a 7.3 file name, texture is in the same folder (no errors in material editor), and options are set to the correct folder.

Which version of MAX are you using?
I use 2009 and i cant put my finger on it but something seems slightly different when mapping the UVW. The other version i used before was 9....i think

    Re: killing time

I am using 2009 how ever I am just learning how to use it. I have downloaded the textporter but have not used it. All I have done so far is assign a single texture to mutli sections and assigned multi textures to muti sections of the model.

    I start using textporter next.

I did run into the same problem you did with missing textures. I was using .jpegs to texture and they didn't work. Once I saved them as .tga and then reset the default folder to texture folder on my desktop it was fixed.

I also use a folder named objects where the OED runs from and exports the
    .3di into.

The model sometimes renders grey in the OED but renders correctly in game.

    Re: killing time

You got me to thinking after reading your last post. My problem was while working in MAX, I would put my texture in the Material Editior, then put it on the object. Bypassing the ME and dragging directly to the object was the fix. Now I just have to re-scale, the buildings are the size of dice lol

Texporter is a great tool. It makes detailing your models easier by creating a template for you to use in photoshop.

Thanks for the help and sorry about the breif thread-hijack.
I like the pyramid you made, very nice.
