    Linux

Anyone useing or have tried Linux (Abuntu?) I just got the latest version and thought I'd give it a try but its just not a easy to use as windows, at least for games wise. I'm still learning how to use it and it does take a bit of reading to convert a game over and run it properly on Linux. Not all games are geared to Linux but for the most part Linux is pretty cool. I would love to use it over Windows someday.

    Re: Linux

I tried Linux - briefly. I got tired of doing things manually - like compiling my own kernel and updating. Drivers for things were a chore.

I remember telling Paul (Wenzel) I was trying out Linux. His response was "Why?". I understand his question now. For diehards or brainiacs.. it may be easy enough to do what you want, when you want. For the rest of us.. you can end up spending more time working for the computer - than you spend working on the computer... a trade off that I no longer consider a worthy investment of my limited time.

Just my 2cents, bro... it is what it is.

    Re: Linux

At present Linux isn't ready for mainstream pc users. If you like to do stuff like installing programs with a gagillion steps and manualy input parameters then linux is for you.It is not for me.It reminds me of Windows 3.0 most everything is done in the command window/DOS like environment, don't care for that at all.Too many hoops to jump thru.Typing a page of text to do something Windows can do with a few clicks does not sound very efficient to me and is very time consuming.Once you have it up and running the way you like it runs fast.If you can get it to run what you want it to run at all.
Try Wine out it does help some. Some games are coded for it most are not.Drivers can be a nitemare to install.Ubuntu is prolly the easiest to get going but does have it's shortcommings.Best just to cruise the net with it on a low powered pc to get used to it first.
I'd love to replace Windows with it also but it's waaaaaay tooo much work at the moment.

    Re: Linux

I guess what was so appealing was the idea that I could use something other then windows. I understand what your saying about the burden of script and manually updating, thats not appealing. After reading your posts and checking things out about Linux through the internet I'm pretty sure now I'm not going to be messing with it all that much.

Its pretty on boot up and I'll keep it on a dualboot for the heck of it, till I need the space...lol

Thanks for the input, it pretty much confirms what I've been reading - that its more trouble then its worth.
