    Unhappy H E L P !

The situation = I have two PC's - one of which I wanna set up as a C4 Server, I am also connected to the internet via a ADSL line and via a Linksys WAG45G Gateway.

The Problem = Altho I 'can' connect to C4 multiplayer on both computers, I 'cannot' start hosting!

I have opened port 17200 to the world and disabled my firewall on both PC's but still 'no go'.

I have contacted Novaworld (UK) about this and they, basically, told me where to go......

Has anyone got any ideas about this? 'Cos if I dont resolve this, I am gonna shoot myself!!

You most likely need to go to your router config site and set up either DMZ for your server or do port forwarding. Once that is done you should be able to host.

Set the correct stadic ip on both machines. Then port forwarding range 17200 to 17500 to the server don't use the dmz zone.

I agree that port forwarding is the better choice, however we tried for a while on 4 different system scattered around the country to get C4 to server behind a linksys router but we were unsucessful with every attempt. It did fine behind my D link and my dynex but not behind the linksys. It never would let anyone join until DMZ was setup. It does leave your system wide open but with certain applications that is the only choice. I looked at using net meeting behind my dynex and was told by dynex the only way to accomplish this was by using dmz for it. I wouldn't use dmz if I had important or sensitive material or records but if it's just for gaming I wouldn't worry much. I have a server set up with it for 2 years now with no problems. If someone wants to give you trouble they don't need dmz on to do it.

    Wink Re: H E L P !

Thanx Guys, I have now been able to run my old PC as a server, using the DMZ In the Linksys Gateway (Modem/Router), C4 is the only application on that computer, so as far as security goes, I have nothing of value on the PC concerned, but, would still like to be able to set it up properly. I am in touch with Novalogic and Linksys about that!
Another related issue is: How do I go about adding maps and the autoexplode into C4? Do I just run them or do they have to go into the Comanche 4 or c4.exe folder.

    Re: H E L P !

To add custom maps I would get the FWO Raven"s Pff Utility offered in CPD C4 Downloads to pack the bms and til files into the c4odata.pff file or you'll have crashes when you cycle betwenn stock and custom maps. The AE 1040 is available in the downloads section in the top toolbar under downloads. To run AE 1040 you will need the fixed ktothc4.exe from Avenger. It should also be available from the C4 downloads here at CPD if not we can send it if you want. you will also needb the MD5 generator utility at the same place as the AE1040 to make sure it passes the md5 test. Oh b y the way when you go to the download toolbar above for those files they will be listed under C4Revolution. I had to download a MSWINSCK.OCX file that our server was missing so if you try to run the md5 generator and it doesn't work you can download this file from many sources if you do a search for the file in your favorite search engine. once downloaded copy it into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory.

I know it sounds like alot of hassle but it's not that bad. Just holler as we say in Ga ifins you need anything.

    Re: H E L P !

I have served C4 using 2 linksys routers. With linksys I found with both routers you need to assign a stadic ip on each pc on the net work in order to join your own server. The server pc needs a stadic ip for other players to get in to it. I have also had C4 come in on a higher port then 17200 ie the reason I set it as a port range up to 17500. I helped another squad member with the same problem with linkys once he set the correct stadic ip on the server we could all join.

With 1 of the linkys routers, after setting port forwarding I had to reboot modem, router and pc to get the port forwarding to work.
heres the ports forded on a lnksys

    Re: H E L P !

Thanks for the router setup info Reaper. I never could get linksys to answer with the answer. I did get F-22 Lightening 3 to work like this but I couldn't get C4 too. I didn't know about C4 connecting on these other ports. It does list about 5 or 6 other ports but you had to change it in c4.cfg to the new ports but there was only 1 listed in the 17200 range and that was 17200 itself. I'm sure that this was our problem.

    Re: H E L P !

Thanx Very Much for all your help guys, after digesting the information you gave, I have now been able to port forward my Linksys Gateway using the port range from 17200 to 17500 - this seems to do the trick.
    Linksys themselves, were useless. (Ha!)
I am now in the process of installing new Maps & the AutoExplode v40, I am just hoping for the best using 'trial & error'. (whatever happened to the 'Host Manager'?)
As far as Ravens utility is concerned I have no idea how to use it and it doesn't come with a manual. I have e-mailed Raven about that.
The server (Time to Kill (=FUN=)) is up and running allbeit very basic.
I am always open to any sugestions.....

Thanks Reaper, I've been trying to host behind a Linksys for 2 years, with no luck. I'll try this this weekend and let you all know.

    Re: H E L P !

I have the host manager I can send you if youlet me know where to send it. BTR revamped the CPD and doesn't have it anymore. I do run it with the AE on our CFS server and it works fine. The thing i like about it is the ability to change map rotations and the hight ceiling and that it actually knocks so one that is 8h down to where 1 cannon round will kill them. You can also set and change passwords and other settings from inside host manager and don't have to take the server down for the changes to take effect.

    Re: H E L P !

Phaser, one easy way to add maps to your .pff file, is to create a simple batch file. Just put your maps into the Comanche 4 folder. Then open Notepad and type this.... (mymap used as example)

    pack c4odata.pff mymap.bms
    pack c4odata.pff mymap2.bms

    pack c4odata.pff mymap.til
    pack c4odata.pff mymap2.til

    del mymap.bms
    del mymap2.bms
    del mymap.til
    del mymap2.til

While Notepad is still open, chose Save As, and save it to your C4 folder as MYMAPS.BAT.... then go to your C4 folder and find the batch file you created and double click it, a black screens pops up, packs them, then closes all automaticly.

    Re: H E L P !

Finally after over two years got my PC to host behind a Linksys router, had to open my port range to 17500, not the 17250 I had been instructed to. Thanks again Reaper!
