    Very Very Urgent problem

    Can anyone help please.
One of our squad members has recently installed a wireless network on his pc. since doing so he can open up a hosting game on TFD and play it but no one else can join. We get as far as "Joining session" but then it just hangs.
Firewall is not up so that is not the problem.
Has anyone encountered this b4/ and if so please help with solving it.
Neither of us are techies so step by step instructions on how to solve this would be appreciated.

From what I have seen in the past regarding this issue, it seems to be a firewall issue. Maybe his wireless router is doing some sort of filtering. I would make sure that the correct ports are opened on the router. What kind of card & router does he have?

    Striker1,

How did he solve the problem? The same thing is happening to me in both DFLW and DFTFD... I can open up a host game on both DFLW & DFTFD and play, but no one else can join my game room. They get as far as "Joining Session" and then it just hangs, until they hit their escape keys.

    Port Forwarding...

Hi lady, all of the cable/dsl routers I have seen offer some type of port forwarding from an external port to an internal ip. If your router is not setup to forward the game ports to the internal IP of the game server the router will stop anyone from connecting to it. Check your manual for "Port Forwarding" or "Internal Server" asside from that if you post your router Manf and model I'll post instructions on how to do this for ya.

    SMC 7004ABR (4 ports & printer connection)

I have configured my router to open the following ports using the Virtual Server Settings:

UDP 17478 for DFLW & DFTFD
    UDP 4660 for Direct X

Also, I do not have my Windows XP Pro Firewall engaged.

I've had the router for almost a year, and never had any trouble hosting online at NovaWorld... until now. It may have something to do with the SMC Firmware update that I downloaded and installed.
I have written to SMC Tech Support to see if they have any suggestions... we shall see.

I know several people who use SMC's Barricade Broadband Routers, and they are experiencing the same inability to host games online. With all of us working on this problem, perhaps we will come up with a solution.

Thank you for your speedy response, Inso!

    Try This...

Hi again, was have the same problem with a Belkin wireless setup for a friend, as the belkin configures the exact same way(Love my Linksys) He was hosting and it either would not let anyone join (locking them up on the loading screen, or wuold let them in and them punt them after 45 seconds)We have resolved this with the following configuration.

    Page 4-15 Virual Server

    PrivateIP_____Privateport_____T/U_____Public Port
    ServerIP_____17450_________TCP_____17450

    Page 4-16 Enabling Special Applications

    TriggerPort_____TriggerType_____Publicports_____Pu blicType_____Enabled
    17450_________TCP___________17450~17480___TCP_____ _____Checked

Not sure if this will solve your problem but it did for him. This config will allow hosting for C4 and DF now through his router. I will recheck his settings when he gets home and verify all this with him and repost if needed, but the point Im getting at here is I belive with the configuration of routers that specify "Special Applications" a trigger and range of ports is required. One other thing to check concerning this is the Lease duration of your WAN IP from your ISP, sometimes they will be very nasty with there duration times, we had one guys that was getting a lease of 2 min! cycling hiom through a block of 5 IP's he umm couldnt host diddly!!

    Hope it helps!

My lease time setting states "forever"... However, when I read the Users Guide, the acutal lease time end date is in the year 2038.

Well, I tried changing the current port on my Virtual Server and opening the port range under Special Application as you suggested. It didn't work on my SMC router...

I did receive and e-mail from SMC, suggesting that I reset the router it its default settings, and then configure my private SMC IP on the DMZ...

Yeah, like I want every hacker and script kiddy in the world to have open access to my computer system...

FINAL SOLUTION for SMC 7004ABR Barricade Broadband Router:

First, if you haven't downloaded and installed the most recent Firmware Update v1.42.003... DON'T!

Second, if you have downloaded and installed Firmware Update v1.42.003 and find that you can no longer host online at NovaWorld... you will have to downgrade to the previous working Firmware v1. 40.018.

Yes, you will have to reconfigure your SMC router from scratch, so be sure to write down all current settings and Virtual Server ports.

I just tested my SABRE CORPS 1 game room online at NovaWorld, and seven players were able to join the co-op mission!

DirectX port number make VON work?

Will forwarding UDP port # 4660 make VON work on DFLW? I can set my BESFR41 router to allow others to join, but I'm having a hard time getting VON to work. I put my server in front of my router, it works fine. Is that the only solution?
