Improved stingers of hellfire?

Greetings.

I've been away for some time and just returned to C4 so many developments in the game are news to me.

Over the last few days, I met a few players that use missiles other than stingers. They are bigger, leave a larger smoke trail, are much more powerful and seem to be able to hit the opponent from further away than 'regular' stingers.

A couple of these players said they are using hellfires but the way those missiles fly and hit seem different than the hellfires I use in single player missions. For one, they seem to be able to hit a target without an active lock (like a passive shot).
Today, one player said that it has something to do with the setup(?).

Can anyone explain to me exactly what missiles are those and the technique on how to use them?

Hey Rant - Loooooooong time.

As for the odd missiles... sounds like an alteration to the weapons.def file. I don't know for sure, I never really tried it. Without any kind audit on the server, you can do whatever you wish to the game - unchecked.

There is also a command added to the shortcut of C4 that gives the player a 'Tactical Display' when playing - and makes your movements visible long before you are. There is (or was) debate among the community whether this is a cheat.

About the "odd missiles", a player named Guard explained to me how he did it but I tried it and didn't work. Maybe he left something out or I didn't understand exactly what to do.
Anyway, as he explained it, the missiles are Hellfire but behave like stingers (no active lock required) by making a couple of changes in the c4.cfg file.

As far as I see it, this is a cheat as it gives you an added advantage. You can see that when playing against someone using it.

Also, I would say that at least some of those using "modified hellfires" are also using the Tactical Display, as in several occasions I kept being hit by players that were too far away to make my position.


In my opinion, it would be useful to have everybody know about these "features" and decide to play and/or serve games with those using them.

Actually, I would like to keep a public list of all of these and other "features" of the game.
The new players get slaughtered over and over and there should be a place where they could easily check if what they while playing is experience, talent, knowledge of sort-of-hidden features or plain cheats.

I guess you are right... but this is a community forum. I will let others voice their opinion - on THIS matter. These 'cheats' (as some may call them) are there and being used and shared. I can see no harm in publishing these 'advantages'.

This discussion is not for any other issue except -- whether we should discuss openly - all of the new 'advantages' that 'experienced' players are using in Comanche4.

My old site is still online at http://flight-club.jalopes.net/.

There is an area with contents about the Comanche (game and RAH-66 program), an Academy (where players can offer and ask for assistance in various areas of the game) and the Central (squads and matches).
The information is completely outdated as the site has been abandoned for a couple of years. Also, there are a few minor bugs to correct, what I will do if it is worth the time.

Suggestions:
- Contents: add a section for not common knowledge features; players would contribute with the information about those features;
Question 1: shall I add the section mentioned above? It is only worthwhile if there is something to put there.

- Central: update the squads info and let squad representatives to update the information on matches (schedulles and results);
Q2: do squad members want their squads and them listed on this site?
Q3: is there any advantage in listing the matches between squads?
Q4: if yes to Q3, and are squads willing to keep the information updated?

- Academy: promote it with new users so they can learn how the game is played and learn from the more experienced pilots.
Q5: are experienced pilots available to teach/train newbies?

The site is also the home of a squad (The Flight Club) that never really existed and I'm not inclined to start a squad now.

This is what i have heard about them strange missles . They have went into the game files and found out how to use sidewinders in C4 . I dont know how they did it nor do I want to know its sad they have to use them . *CFS* does not stand behind the use of these or the TD hack . We are just looking for players to play the game like Novalogic intended C4 to be played no hacks no cheats just a clean straight up game . want a fair game come on in the *CFS* server and have some fun .

I don't play much C4 any more. A few games now and then. As for the hell fire setting maybe some one that uses it can explain if the setting is server side, ie like the 1 hit change to the def file. Or players make it.

Doesn't matter if it was a simple config setting or a change in the def files. If it doesn't work for all players it's a cheat. No diff than 3h, the hud command or any other thing players use.

The exception would be a server where game settings or even altered files would be accepted game play and all players know that's the way they should set the game up. The way I see it if the server wants to run any type of game play and players want to play that way, then it's no longer a cheat. Then it becomes more of a mod. As long as every knows and all the players are notified when they enter the server.

Hummm debate This should be pretty short there are not enough players still playing C4 to warrant much discussion. Either way posting any information should have very little effect on the game now. Players will share the information any way. I guess it depends on where the Admins here want to draw the line on information you will let players post about cheats.

Nice to see you around again Rant. One thing about C4 even after playing Joint Operations and now GRAW. I am still impressed with the graphics this 5 year old game uses. Some times after all this time you need to fire the game up to see how good it really is.

The guy with the "improved stingers" (calls himself Guard or USA) has changed c4.cfg, by removing one of the existing weapons and substituting a modified Hellfire (sidewinder).

The missiles chase you down wherever you fly, so removing any of the skill element.

It is a cheat, pure and simple, and players should refuse to play against him. If he won't leave, then gang up against him!

Guard explained to me how he did it (English was there, I believe) but it doesn't work. When I change the c4.cfg file and start the game, c4.cfg is changed back to it's original form.

It is a cheat, no question about it.

well i hate to say it but this is actually not a c4.cfg thing, its almost as simple but not, you can swap weapon slots with any weapon u want by hex editting the c4.EXE

i worked on the C4GET with bane and avenger, and yes it was found to be an exploit, you can make a simple little retype at 1 of 5 points in the exe's hex to swap your 500 bullets with 500 stingers, or swap your 56 hydras with amramms or sidewinders or hellfires or 50cal bullets or any projectile in C4 basically, someone just realized that the sidewinder is powerful!

you could also swap 1 your weapons with ARTY shells, it was kinda hard to hit anyone with these slow moving slugs but a hit meant death to anything, they would 1 hit kill any type of vehicle period! but those were tell tale, they hade fiery trails and were quite visible to other players!

just thought i would do one last thing for the community, and also, there is a way to get rid of people using that exploit that i discovered after leaving the c4get, i dont have time to play with it in detail but if someone with some C4 code modding experience contacts me i can hook them up with the neccisery info to get they going!

my advice is if you suspect this is happening just do 1 simple thing to tell, folow him around at a distance and count how many missiles he fires before a reload, if he has sidewinders he obviously knows this exploit, and if he knows this exploit he most likely has swapped his 20MM bullets for sidewinders which would also make them shoot from the nose cannon and not the efams, so he prolly has no efams either, quite easy to tell once you know that!

ok i read the above posts again and it seems i missed several ideas,

i also know how to thwart the TD or display target data command line switch
and if it was opted to let people customize their loadouts i could post a tut but thats only if it was widely accepted, otherwise i would not.

anyway, same as above, someone with experience get intouch with me, and i will crash course you in what need to do to kill these little noobice wanabee hacks
