prior to home viewing it was necessary to go to a theatre which is a large arena that usually had seats in it. it was there that you were able to be entertained by actors on a stage. in more recent years, theatres were able to project "moving" pictures onto a screen using a light source being projected through semi-tranparent film instead of having live actors.
