Smile can I ask this question?

hey ya'll, got a problem, hoping someone can help. got a question to ask first- Occasionally I play a game that is not a novalogic game. I uninstalled one of them and some components were left on my computer. cant get rid of them. so the thing that i need help with is the "mechanics" of my computer and windows, not the game. cant seem to find the info i need anywhere and was hoping maybe someone in the community might have some ideas. But... first I must ask- Is it innapropriate for me to post a question about a technical problem that was caused by a non-novalogic game on this forum?
I very much enjoy this site and value my registered user status so I dont want to offend anyone. thanx!

First of all what game is it and what are you looking to remove?

Normally if you install a game on your computer and you want to remove it in its entirety, you would want to go to control panel/add and remove programs. Once you selected to remove the game it should remove all components the game installed.

If in the case it does not remove all the components then you can look in the directory you installed the game to, usually Program Files. Find the folder of your game and just highlight it and hit delete.

This should remove any traces of the game files. Don't worry to much if the game sent files to system folder because normally it will use existing files and if it leaves files that will not be used by any other games and/or programs its not going to hurt anything if they are there.

If you having trouble understanding this I would be more then happy to help you step by step or if someone else has a simpler tune to contribute that would be a help as well.

Charger, thanxs, heres whats happening: I had medal of honor allied assault on the computer. ( running windows xp) I uninstalled the game and everything was fine. one day i'm looking around on my computer and I go to controll panel and then to Add/Remove programs and I see Medal of honor allied assault listed as a program. so i highlight and click remove, the install sheild wizard asks if i want to remove all components, I click yes, the wizard says finished, but its still there.
so I go to my program files where the game folder was located before the original uninstall and theres nothing there, next I go to start and then Search. I do a search through all files for anything with medal of honor allied assault and I search for anything with the initials mohaa. Search reveals nothing. However Add/Remove programs still lists the program and will not remove it. At first I say oh well, leave it there. now 6 months later I wanted to play the game again, I put in the disk and hit install button. Up pops the window that gives me the option to modify, repair, or uninstall the game instead of the standard installation. none of the options do any thing . so I'm thinking that the little bit of the program thats left ( add/ remove lists it as only 1.49mb) is making my game disk think that the game is already installed and thats why I get the modify/repair /uninstall window instead of the instalation process. Even tried just inserting disk and clicking play, but theres not enough there so nothing happens.
So I'm trying to figure out if theres somewhere I can go in the computer to delete whatever is left since add/remove lists it but cant remove it and search says theres no such file. ( dont think game disk is to blame because i have the original and also a brand new disk, same problem with both.
I'm hoping to find someway to solve this without erasing the whole computer and reinstalling windows. called gateway tech support, they said call game manufacturer cause its not a windows problem but game manufacturer hasnt been of any help either. Personally i think it is a windows problem but then again my business is concrete not computers. any thoughts on this or ideas where I might find the solution?
Really appreciate your help charger, hope I didnt ramble to much!

Go to Start --> Run. Type in regedit. When the registry editor opens, make sure the My Computer is highlighted and then go to Edit --> Find and type in Medal. This should find all references of Medal of Honor for you in your registry. You can delete the registry keys as you find them (right click --> Delete). After you delete a key, simply press F3 to find the next reference. After deleting all the keys - if you have System Restore on, make a restore point. Reboot. Check and see... that should do it.

Agree. This was my answer as well. If you don't have any other EA games on your computer I suggest searching for "Electronic Arts" as well just as I typed it. There is actually an instance (folder) of "Electronic Arts" in registry in Local Machine/Software and houses all EA games installed on your computer. I don't have Medal Of Honor installed on my computer anymore but I have other EA games, including BF2 and Special Forces in that folder. Good luck.

Charger and Blue- you are the man! (men) thankyou so much! I had tossed the idea around in my head that it might have something to do with the registery but I was leary of jumping into it. Afraid I would set my computer on fire or something! your explanation and instructions were excellent. I just finished deleting all the keys and I went to add/remove and FINALLY all references to the game are gone. And I'm typing this to you so I didnt fry my computer! Printed off and saved your instructions on paper for future.
Thanks again!!!! (think I'll load up black hawk down and go celebrate in somalia for a while! hope i can help yall out sometime!
