Well, I haven't even started playing C4 yet, but I'll still add my support to Avenger in here... I'm a fellow modder and have been working on & off for a couple of years on the TXP2 mod for DF2. Like the C4UD, TXP2 is not finished yet, and if somebody had released the beta from last year to the public now, I would have been just as outraged as Avenger is now. It doesn't help trying to explain to such people WHY such a release is totally wrong. Releasing without asking permission simply tells it all about the integrity of such people. Their "love for the game" is totally irrelevant. Personally, I'll be working on TXP2 until it's finished, no matter if I'm the only player left in DF2 by then. If the finished result is great, the people which have true love for the game will come back, at least to try it out. Likewise, I hope Avenger will take his time to finish the C4UD in peace & quiet before releasing it, and not be pressured by anyone to make a hurried release. Let those who play the leaked release be ashamed...

No Offense, So Dam, but CFS has an ACTIVE roster of 23 pilots; THC, SAI are active, there are still some solo pilots out there and interest hasnt died completely.

What I can tell you from knowing Avenger the past two years is that he takes his work very seriously. When He and the GET were working on the player/host managers he was very particular iabout it, we(CFS) were the guinea pigs and tested for MONTHS and MONTHS for him to get any glitches/bugs out of it. A LOT of time was spent on those projects by him, so I can only imagine how much time has been spent(by him) on the C4UD. Bottom line, his name is on the line when it goes out, he wants it right, There are dies hards out there like myself, I'll wait, the game is fun without the UD, it can only get better. As long as two people are left in a server to kill each other the game isnt dead.

The bottom line is - they did/do not have the Mod Author's permission to post the file for download. It is not open source and is an unauthorized download.
Now, they have a ripped version of the MOD - and a patch - that still does not equal the full download. ( I've seen a newer/better updated version )
What I would like to see is the official UD getting some encrypted info off of a remote server - doing a handshake - and giving a die command to the servers running it now. The encryption and requirements required to run it would be dynamic - so hacking it would give a sysdump to anyone joining a hacked version that is not kept updated. What would take minutes to set in the source code will cause the rogues who think its okay to steal the community's software would be forced back to tinkering (instead of playing).
The software was stolen - pure and simple. It was given to a certain few to beta test. They abused the trust that was given them and published it for download. I was also asked to keep the software off of the public servers. I did. Even though Comanche4 is dying - it is no excuse to do whatever you want. I don't care who says it is or the reason(s) they give for doing it, it is not right.
I have not posted about the Hacked version of the UD, But I have few things to say.
First I was looking forward to the new terrains and the extra media for my own use. I even put off some work I want to do waiting for it. I grabbed the hacked version of the down load before I saw Avengers post, Didn't know it was hacked and many of the players that can down load it now will not know either. Didn't even bother to instal it, Because It doesn't belong to the site that put it up for down load. The posts about the UD on that site speak for the low class attitude that see nothing wrong with what they did. I will also add they have done nothing to give you new media not even make a map.
I am going to leave the items I could use alone, Chances are Avenger wont release the original version now, Maybe he had enough and wasn't going to any way. Either way doesn't matter. He spent the time on it, he has the right to not give any one the work he did.
But i ask you all a question. If the few people in this community that spend the time to make items for the game can't get your support who will be left to give you new media. How many have to get pissed and stop working on the game before you get it. How many cool things are on someones computer some where and they wont share it because there is a hand full as asshats that ruin it for every one.
So heres what you do now hope that the people in this community that make new maps, work on new game types, design new enviroments, and do the mod work don't have a problem with some one stealing their work and getting no support from the rest of the community. Because there isn't enough of the rest of you to make any thing new for the game.
As far as the UD goes, now where do you go for support? You think the people hosting the down load are going to fix any bugs, Ill bet they add new maps in a few months when your tired of the ones you have now right....LOL

I don't know about that. There are a few out there still but most the players that were creative enough to make a map have left the game. You have Crash and ZAK. Other than that I cant think of another map maker out there. I don't go in the servers much anymore but when I have I dont remember seeing any new maps. And yes it is sad. When I started playing C4 actually had a community. Now, for the most part, it's an all about me attitude. I'm sure the top players will be really prod of themselves. Sharing with community members I know is one thing - offering it to everyone else - will now be a different matter entirely. I don't fly on the servers anymore - but I enjoy cranking up the game every now and again for a diversion.
More detailed buildings - that are a challenge to navigate... We'll get together Reap and come up with some ideas. They can go without - as far as I'm concerned. I can see from this thread alone, who will benefit from any further work. :wink1:

And another thing - ZAK - on his own - removed the link for the download on his site when he finally understood what was going on. To me - that speaks volumes. He, as well as others who have not jumped on the 'screw you, its all about me' boat, remain(s) hopeful that the UD will be released officially.

Who are responsible for the C4Guide site anyway, and why haven't they removed the C4UD downloads yet...? Are their brains totally fried, or maybe they can't take a hint or something...? They need a new set of diapers, and to start growing up...
Ok, I'll probly end up taking more crap over this post, but hopefully I can get a chance to give my side of the story. Before I let anyone have this, YES, i did try for over a month to get into contact with Avenger, and got no responce. I had been in contact with the CFS askin were he had been, if he was ok, ect.. I was told NO ONE has seen or heard from him and his last email to the CFS was one that pretty much said he was quiting because of the cheat, crying in the servers and whatever else his reasons for leaving was. So what I done was let the CoN and CFS squads have it. Just so we could have some fun before this game is completly dead. I am sorry though that there are few that hates to see what i have done, TRIED to finish up one mans work and offer it to all to enjoy the way it was ment to be. But you all wont have to worry about something like this happening anymore. C4 now has 1 less pilot now. So go ahead and trash me some more please. I wont be back to CPD to read it. Have a great day.

Blue put it nicely , asper this example of useing something that you don't have permission to use or alter........but as per myself.....I do Have a brand new spankin Harley Custom that i built with my own hands , and as per my Ego on what i build , thats mind to indulge in or on....ride it without my permission, dang, i would brake bones if you sat on it without permission.the hell with my EGO..or yours....

If someone is proud of any map that they build , and are nice enough to post for other players to play and enjoy.....right on.....But to download , alter , motifiy bullcrap...It's friggin thieft.. as far as I'm concerned.....when you stoop that low.....you should be banned......who the heck needs ya.
