i didnt like it personally it aint a spot on the originals ass tom cruise manages to ruin yet another film
I think BTR is jealous of Tom C., I don't think he should see this movie. It might
scare him too much
pros
special effects extremely good
realism very good
keeping in line of original - very good
added stuff not in original (like the goo everywhere) -very well done
(at least I don't remember it ? but its been 30+ yrs since i read the book)
as far as cruises acting - probably the best he's done
cons
- lets face it - that guy in the basement would have kicked cruises ass
- no way that stupid boy would have been alive
- cruise would never have been smart enough to have survived

Finally got a chance to watch it last night on DVD, great movie. At first I was a little skeptical about Tom Cruse being in this role but, along with Dakota Fanning (his daughter Rachel) I was compelled to watch and follow their journey to find Mommy in Boston.
The special effects were great and though minor parts seemed a little silly (the scene where the three of them get pushed under water by the car falling off the ferry and oddly enough if it wasn't for the car they would have been torn up by the ferry's blade's, but the user friendly vehicle seemed to push them out of harms way, good vehicle.
I was okay with the son Robbie going off by himself...I think he hooked up with the Marines whom probably saved his life numerous times till he got back to Boston. The Marines are f-ing cool like that under all that ruff exterior.
Anyway, I'd watch it again thats for sure...as a matter of fact think I'll do that right now.
Hey be careful about abbreviations, i thought you were talking about Tom Clancy at first not Tom Cruise.Originally Posted by JJG43
Hello.
Very cool movie , awesome visuals..
I don't know yall, seeing Tom Cruise running from one beastie to another beastie while looking over his shoulder got boring for me. Best part from me was the ground effects when the that Tripod rose from the ground, liked that.
Now with regard to those baskets under the tripods that contained the people, were they fuel for the tripods??? and spewing that red mist( blood)
that turned into a sort of ROOT growing vine?? Please someone explain it to me?? the version from the late sixties I liked better tho.

I believe that the humans weren't actually fuel for the tripods but rather, and I'm guessing that human remains were food for the aliens or possible fertilizer that would allow the aliens to live on this earth. The whole idea of this movie was to note that we spend all our lives doing thing like trying to kill off a simple common cold germ when in fact it was the cold virus in humans that killed off the aliens...Originally Posted by JJG43
So I think the moral to the story is...why sweat the little things! (LOL)
The thing is most originals were better because we didn't know what was going to happen next where as the copy needs to dazzle us in ways that makes it stand out fro the original. I don't think it would have been very effective if the remake was exactly like the original, it would be beyond boring.
