    Start Problems

    Hey Guys
    This is a real headache!
I had a hard drive fail on me and have renewed it, I had to re-install C4 And F-22 Lightning3, I now find that after re-installing C4 it refuses to run, I have, in the past, used the C4GET and the NO-CD and the Startup applications, it may be the absence of one or more of these thats causing the problem,
Any Help Would be most Appreciated! As I am now missing loadsa Matches and Scrimmages.
    Nick

Curious but when you say it "failed and then you renewed it", do you mean you re-installed windows or you changed hard drives?

I would imagine if your useing a completely new Hard Drive and installing every thing new again it should work by all means. Unless your missing something that wasn't installed by a new install of windows.

If your on a re-install of windows on the same drive I would imagine something might be corrupt as to what caused your drive to fail in the first place and trurhfully I'm not an expert on the matter but maybe this is the direction you want to look in. I would think you might want to re-install the game starting with the first application and installing the ones you had before in that order. So without any patches, installing the game itself does the game work at all?

Either way I can relate to your pain bro of not being able to play...

    Thanx charger...
The hard drive was totaly renewed, but whilst installing windowsXP again, it only used 12Mg of space (I think I set up the jumpers wrong) where there was 80gig available, I have just had a mate around and he has reformated a new drive with the leftovers (drive F)
Which basically just uses up the rest of the space. I can now play Lightning3 but I'm still having probs with C4, everything tells me its on my machine and running (task manager - c4.exe = running) but Its Not!, this is really getting me down now (I havn't played for over a month now!) H E L P !

    Angry Re: Start Problems (update)

    Hello again all....
I have now purchased a new Hard Drive and Comanche 4 Disk and it still will not start, so by process of elimination it must be my CD-ROM drive, but, in saying that I have two, one a LITE ON DVD/CD-RW Combo (burner) 52X Drive, the other a LITE ON CD-ROM 52X Drive, I have tried installing and running in both so can anyone help out there? The only other alternative's are the Motherboard or my Windows XP operating system.
Jeezz I'm getting VERY VERY frustrated with this.

If You would like to talk online use either my MSN Messenger address or FWD TS2, I'm usually in and on most days 9am - 12midnight = UK Time

Are your drivers (especially the video card driver) updated?

scince you had a problem installing your harddrive you may have overlooked your DMA settings for all your drives.
Some players create a partition specially for C4 which has a paging file
    ( size = 2 X your physical memory ) on it.

If your cd rom drives are set to PIO u must change them to DMA.
Hope that helps, or at least gets the program running.

    Re: Start Problems

    Hello Guys,
    I appreciate this advice....
    I have now got 2 hard drives + 2 CD-ROM Drives,
C: Drive has been partitioned (by a buddy) into C: Drive & G: Drive But since he's done this I have temporerirally disabled G: Drive, C: Drive is used to run my OS (Windows XP) and the usuall additions ie: TS2 + MSN etc.
The Second hard drive F: Drive is totally empty at the mo, but I am gonna use it for C4 & F-22.
What I would like to know is what is DMA and PCI. How and what the hell should I do about these Things also how?

As soon as I can get back to my aeroplanes I'll be a happier bunny. Although this PC bussiness has been a steep learning curve and exciting!

    ave a nice one.

    HOOAH! & HOORAY!
Just wanna say a BIG Thankyou to all concerned, for all your help with my start problems. It is all now resolved mainly thanx to No_Escape pitfighter (Kev).
The problem was solved in the end by reformatting both my hard drives, and downloading Comanche 4 twice in rapid succession to the second drive, don't know why, I just followed directions.
If anyone in the future gets a similar problem, al I can say is:
    KISS = roughly translated as
    Keep It Simple, Stupid!

    Again a BIG BIG Thankyou.

    Re: Start Problems

Basiclly you have to be a smitten careful when useing WindowsXP and two HDD. I had a really major problem formatting the first HDD "NFTS" and leaving the second drive "FAT32" (which someone, I'll never listen to again said I could do). At one point later on I had both drivers "NFTS" and reformatted the first drive and left the seocnd drive with just data and save on it, still "NFTS" formatted...I couldn't access the second drive and had to formatt both drive at the same time and then was able to access them both. I lost alot of important data in that mess. I learned that this was a problem with SP1 and think the porblem has been fixed now with SP2. Now I am able to format my main drive and never touch second drive and still works great. I don't know what all this has to do with anything cept I thought it would be cool to say...don't know when WM's HHD were reformatted that the problem could have pointed towards this issue. Just seems kinda strange that the only way to be able to play a game is to install it "twice"...no logic in that at all. Never the less the problem was solved and he now can play, lets be thankful for that.
