Not only stupid but clumsy with it

Hello All
I have just moved home, and in the process I dropped my PC's base unit.
As a result the USB ports are damaged (I think!) and now Windows XP Wizard does not recognise any of my hardware. I have been advised by my OEM to purchase a new Motherboard, But also been advised by an ex RAF buddy that I can add an external USB port(s) and connect it into the PC (somehow?)
Can anybody advise me further or give me more options?

Soo kool!
Only problem is - I live in the UK and apart from the time difference we don't use dollars! (humour!)
