Now where did I put that Waypoint Z?

Has anyone experimented with waypoint z. Like what does it actually do? The only thing I get from it is, the aircraft will fallow your waypoint but at a predetermined height. of about six feet off the ground. This effect is great for having airplane look natural for a landing event. The plane will fallow waypoint and at certain waypoint number you can have craft start to fallow waypoint z, the plane will drop low to the ground like its coming on for a landing, the only problem I see at this point is the plane, once reaches the last waypoint will not drop all the way to the ground. Same with helicopter. It just stays a few feet up.

Any help on this would be apreciated.

    Waypoint z

In C4 editor there’s references to waypoint z. In AI Variables you can set the AI, example...Plane - F16 (Waypoint z fallow). OR in events in Events Action, Action Subtype "Use Waypoint Z" or "Stop Using Waypoint Z"

"Waypoint Z" is referring to the Waypoints Z value (height)

    Waypoint

I'm still confused..which isn't hard to do. I'm going to do some experimenting now, and if I find out anything interesting I'm coming back here, and it ain't gonna be pretty.

    example:
    create a non looping waypoint list with 5 waypoints. set the z value of the 1st wp @ 500m, the 2nd @ 200m, the 3rd @ 100m, the 4th & 5th @ zero.

insert a civi 747 & assign it those waypoints & to follow their z value. the 747 will follow those wp z values & land.

    for a better effect have the 747 slow to 15kph at wp 4 & land @ wp 5 (land=stop)

that is 1 example of follow z value. as always, you have to try & test a bit to get the right effect, and not all AI react the same. i can't remember for sure, but i think the 737 doesn't even fly. LOL

Excellent Rus. This is an effect I’ve been trying to duplicate with little success. I haven’t ventured into all the aspects of the editor so this will be a big help in a mission I’ve been working on for a few months. Did you know this from experimenting or do you have a better version of the help manual then we do?

and i thought i was the only one who took months to make a map... LOL

i have the help manual that you made !

i'll email a mission that i've been working on for awhile (should be done sometime next year). it has a 747 land on a airstrip & taxi up to the gate.

the thing is that it is on a custom terrain layout, & i haven't made an installer for it yet, so you will have to contact me so i can tell you how to install it.

    Great Work

Great work on the map Rus. I’ve already flown through it a few more times checking out the scenery. It’s one heck of a large map which I think makes it more realistic. Love the 747 when it comes in, its an overwhelming sight.
I keep hitting myself in the head (which I like to do ) over just how simple waypoint z is now. Thanks for the tip, wish I had of entered it in the manual.

Not exactly sure what your asking there Blue but most of the procedures are manipulated in events, or should I say a variety of settings and then manipulated with events.

    Quiet

Not that I dislike TDM or even DM but speaking for myself personally I didn't design TDM or DM missions and probably wouldn't even attempt converting them over. Had to much fun learning all the neat and wonderful things you can do with the editor that placing a couple of buildings and adding a waypoint didn't seem all that much fun for the DM missions. Thanks for the offer and there are enough DM/TDM missions available that you would have plenty to choose from.

    Whoops...Again..

Sorry, frustration set in when I felt stonewalled in the Mission Editor.

Opening Edit>Events appeared to be a dead end at first. DOUBLE CLICKING on <New Trigger> and <New Events> opens the doors to which I was referring.

Yeppie, dummy me sitting there trying to figure out how to word a new trigger or event - and get it to post in that window. You know, if I wasn't me... I'd call me an idiot.

Not a word Rus.. not a word...
