Newbie post re C4 "lag" and PCX files

(posted this by mistook on wrong forum - sorry-o)

    Newbie question re Comanche 4
Recently re-installed C4 on a new PC (XP/Pro/2.8Ghz proc/1Gb Ram/64Mb Vid etc) and if seems to get a little "lag" every 10 seconds or so, in both single and multiplayer. Whilst the games runs fine in any other way, this is irriating.

Also, when looking in the c4 directory, I found hundreds of PCX files (screenshots?). Each file is between 600K -1.2mb. If I don't delete these, the game goes into frantic disk activity when starting new game (single or multi). When I first noticed this, there were over 11,000+ files totalling 9.5Gb!

Is there something in the config that does a screen capture/dump and is this related to the "lag" every 10 seconds?

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers

    3 things

    1) sounds like you are inadvertantly taking screen shots go to options/remap, and look for screen shot in all your controls (keyboard, mouse, and joystick) and change the key to something you don't use for keyboard, and delete in in the other two

    2) there are a bunch of windows services, and also any and all programs running in the background that can cause this problem and if you choose you can disable them SSDP was the worst on my machine - shut it off !! - I have a list of the one's that I personally disabled and was still able to have the computer run (not for the faint of heart ) here http://home.comcast.net/~c4league/Ho...rvicenotes.htm

    3) this can also be caused by a crappy cable connection (some ISP's give you a "fast connection" but are overloaded and have regular ci's caused either by your overloaded network or their time-slicing of your connection

Thanks for the swift response. Checked all key mappings nothing there. Have started game and just the thing hovering without touching a single key/joystick and it still has hundreds of pcx files in the folder.

This happens in single player and online.

Checked processes/services etc. and the only one that novalogic recommend stopping is the Norton AV, which is fine if I'm SP with LAN/WAN cable physically disconnected.

Is there a C4 config setting that disables screen capture? Can I tweak it in a startup file or command line?

    Cheers

don't forget there's 3 mappings - each separate for keyboard, joystick, mouse. I have a feeling your joystick is taking the pics. did you remap the joystick too to disable screen shot there ?

I don't know of a command line function to disable it, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

also, don't forget to check your joystick software to make sure that there isn't a preprogrammed macro associated with one of the stick functions that might be taking the shots .
