    Quick note...

Comanche 4 uses only the Arial font set for server and pilot names. When you use the charmap to copy characters to your name field in the editor look on the bottom left of the charmap window for the "alt" number will be listed as a U+#### being a 4 character hex value. Comanche 4 only allows the first 256 characters of the Arial font set so that means that any character over U+00FF will not load in the editor or in the game. It will show up as "?" Any questions please ask.

    Other ideas?

I just finished redoing the pilot editor, I changed it around sothat when the editor loads it prompts you for the file you wish to open instead of auto opening the defualt, also prompts on save. Sorry I forgot how many of you have multi installs of c4 and I thought the auto open was a nice touch. It was it just wasnt functional! so before I post the update any other changes any one can think of?

    Issue with c4player.sav

The utility is handy but be carful.

The name buffer can be exceeded by pasting more characters than are available as free spaces and will corrupt the c4player.sav. The corruption was most evident to me when starting starting a single player game and also on the player Stats page. So be carful what pasting and backup c4player.sav

    Hey Bane,

It should be trimming the pilot name to the first 15 characters. Ill check it out.

I did copy and paste a few names into one box and only the first 15 chars were wriiten so it would be helpful if you explained what exactly this means "name buffer can be exceeded by pasting more characters than are available as free spaces "

Thanks for the info, and if it is not trimming it at 15 I wil get it fixed and reposted.

They only thing I could do that came close to what your describing is to paste invalid game char into the pilot name. The game uses the arial font so if you paste a char into the box that isnt arial will appear as a square or a space(usually) this is just an invalid char, not a corrupt file!! If the file were in fact corrupt the game would recreate a new defualt sav file and not load the one you edited, meaning you would lose all of your settings etc and you would not see the name at all you would see griffon and three empties. Possiably this is what your describing, Im not sure, but I can assure you that it is not corrupting the file. It would help if you better clarify what your doing to cause it and exactly what is happening.

    Pilot Editor

    OK.
Use these steps to recreate what i'm seeing.

Renamed ur c4plyr.sav and launch the game to create a new file.
Use the griffon player then start new game to initialize the control settings in the file.
Exit the game. Open the pilot editor rename the second (empty) player by copying and pasting these two characters: 12
    Repeat paste operation 8 times.
    so now you see 121212121212121
Save and close. Start the game and switch to the pilot 121212121212121
start a single player game using check use the joystick and everything default.
    start the "Training" Mission
The first thing you should hear is "Mayday Mayday the rookie has gone down". At this point the game will not be responsive and u wil have to kill the process.

The other pilots may still work but I have not tried.

    Thanks Inso,
