Re: What are your rig specs?

For real, nice system there duder. The only upgrade I've made in the past few years was a 7800GS which plays all the games I'm interested in real Nice on moderate settings. I am somewhat envious of your system and can imagine how great the graphics must look with such games as Crysis and Farcry2. My son has a dual core, PCI express Nvidia 8800GT, 4Gigs of Memory and I've seen some amazing graphics on that so I can imagine what your getting.

Re: What are your rig specs?

Mine isn't quite as high as yours but here it is.

Was wondering what the difference is between 3D Mark 05 and 06.

    • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs) OC'd to 3.6ghz
    • Motherboard: ASUS Striker II 780i SLI
    • Memory: 4092MB RAM Corsair XMS2 PC8500 running dual channel mode
    • Hard Drive: Samsung HD10 SATA/300 32MB buffer 1 terabyte
    • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+
    • Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
    • Monitor: HP mx70/Envision - dual 17" CRTs (yeah I know I need to upgrade those)
    • Sound Card: Plantronics DSP
    • Speakers/Headphones: Plantronics DSP Game Pro 1
    • Keyboard: Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite
    • Mouse: Logitech G5 Laser
    • Computer Case: APEVIA X-Infinity
    • Power Supply: BFG 680W

Re: What are your rig specs?

The difference is much better graphics - lighting and shadows.

You also beat me in 3dMark06. Score posted below.

Since yesterday - and after talking to MasterX - who also has a Black Edition - I discovered a couple of things. Number One... I am running an nVidia card on an AMD chipset. Not the smartest thing to do - since AMD owns ATI.

Secondly, Vista machines do better in DirectX 10 environments - which neither Mark05 or Mark06 use.

What I do know is that I can play Farcry2 and Crysis on Ultra High Settings with AA running and never break a sweat. The CPU's sit at 50°C while playing both of them. The Video doesn't lag at all... it is really fun to play and look at.

There are some people submitting those scores who scored 45,000 on machines OC'd to 6Ghz. All l I've been chasing is a good video experience since FarCry (the first one) made my 6800GT AGP beg for mercy. I'm happy now...I finally caught up.

Chasing the latest upgrades can become addicting as well as expensive.

That's all I'm really looking for. And while what I've got isn't the best out there it will run about anything out right now. And I have the option to upgrade (quad core CPU, 2nd or 3rd video card) at a later time. I got almost 5 years out of my last build with an upgrade here and there. Hopefully this one will last as long.

Re: What are your rig specs?

What I find interesting about this post is that it started in Sept. 2002. Kind of neat to look back at was was running then compared to whats out now. My how things change over the years.

Re: What are your rig specs?

Pretty interesting RAB, to see the comparison on how computer system can change in only a few years. Though I've set out to do a complete upgrade I settled for upgrading components instead, which I've had for a few years now and still does ok. I can not run games like Crisis, or FarCry and the like but it runs the games I love pretty decent.

    AMD Athlon 3000+ (Barton - 2.1 GHz)
Biostar "M7NCD Pro" nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard
    [2.5 Gigs] 1 GHz DualChannel-Memory (2x512 Matched)
    [GeForce 7800GS] SA5500 Geforce FX5500 128MB DDR AGP 8X Video Card
    160GB/80GB HD 2 80GB Hard Drives
    DVD/CD Rom
    17" LCD Monitor
    Cable Modem
(Oh yeah and no mice, no rats and no duck tape!)

Re: What are your rig specs?

How things change... That's very true! I started playing C4 with dial-up, on a Gateway 800 Delux that only had 512MB memory when it came, and could only take 768 max..or something like that.
It had a 32mb vid card, that I upgraded to a 64mb, and then to a Nvidia 5200 with a whopping 256mbs... My biggest upgrade.. CABLE INTERNET (Woo Hooo) LMAO Once I had cable, that made all the difference... I could actually see who killed me (sometimes) and I learned to die alot faster...LOL

Man, that seems like a lifetime ago...

Re: What are your rig specs?

LOL I started playing C4 on a Gateway with a 433 Celeron, 128 MB of ram, onboard ATI Rage graphics and dial up internet through AOL. Picture was so grainy it was hard to tell what anything was.

Re: What are your rig specs?

The New System is finally complete. I went ahead and ditched the Radeon Motherboard for an nVidia board with SLI.

    • AMD 9950BE Quad-Core 125W -- OC'd to 3.00ghz

    • ASRock K10N780SLIX3-WiFi Mainboard

    • 8 Gigs OCZ 8500 -- Running in Dual Channel @ 1066

    • 2 x EVGA 260GTX/216 Core SC running SLI

    • SILVERSTONE ST70F 700Watt PS

    • Sceptre 24" LCD -- 1920 x 1200

    • Antec Nine Hundred Gaming Case

I also decided on this build to have an XP install... even if only a 32 bit. This allowed me to test 3dMark05 and 3dMark06 as I had the previous systems. Results posted below.

And yes, it is interesting to see the computers change over the years. My first C4 computer was a 233mhz dell - with a 32MB Radeon7000.

I hear you Charger... But you need to quit being jealous that I can play solitaire at 900fps....

Well, that was 'Performance' testing. They offer 'Extreme' testing which humbles you.
