The Next Comanche 4

As a community, if we are going to Petition NOVALOGIC to give us a new helicoper game we need as many players as possible to be behind this !.
The first step is to get every body one the same page. So over the next 2 weeks please take the following steps:

Those of you that are a member of a squad need to contact the rest of your members tell them to come read the thread and post, even if it's just to put their call sign in so they know what's going on and we get an idea of the number of players who can post to the petition at Nova.

Those of you who still fly the servers need to put the word out to those players. Get them in here to post so we know the word is out.

Every body needs to contact every former player you have an email or im connection for, This mean your old squad makes, members of other squads and any player that ever played C4 you can contact.

Those of you that have always used the login bypass to play or have not logged in recently and have had your account deleated by NOVALOGIC will need to register an create a new account at NOVALOGIC, You can create an account with your C4 key. I know because I already tested it.

It this point I want to give the community a few weeks to get the word out before we start the campain to nag Nova for a new game. While players are being contacted I will go get as many email addresses for NOVALOGIC as I can find.

Just a few more things:
First Blue runs the forum here I am just one of the members. Any one who has any better ideas to try and get Nova to give us a new game is welcome to put them forward.

Personally I just want Nova to give us an updated Helicopter arcade game. I am not looking to ask them for it to be built on the new game engine their working on now. With that said It might be a good idea to post some things the community would like in the game.

I think to get our point across to Nova we are looking at more than just the petition and a few emails, for this to work we will need keep sending them emails and bugging them un-till they tell us to stop.

I just aske for a revamp or a new hellicopter combat game on the nova site. I recomend others do the same but try not to create a account using a pirated key. If nova gets 10 request and 4 of them are from people whom have pirate copies that is hardly going to encourage them to create a new Hellicopter combat game like c4. I think that one of the reasons they stopped with c4 was because there were more pirated copies than purchased ones. This is hardly a motivating thing for a business to spend more money on delevopment when sales dry up. Remember you don't pay game programmers minimum wage.

Granted every one should have a legit copy of the game, I have 3. How ever I don't beleive Nova hasn't made another C4 because of pirated copies.

The truth is Nova is a small company. Since C4 was released they put out BHD, Joint Ops with exspantions for them. Then DFX and DFX 2. They also got fined for using un-reg copies of software photoshop ect.

They bought a major motion capture program and either bought or built a new game engine.

Keep in mind there were other communities for the games with fighter jets, tanks and a space shooter all released before C4. Chances are nova put all there eggs in one basket by putting out 3 games with cross veh action, something the Nova community asked for. It would take less resources to do it that way.

I think what we need to show Nova is we want another heli game and there are enough of us to make it worth their time to do it.

What do you think is the best way to try and persuade NL to release a new game?

Should be fairly easy to port/build on an existing engine.Especially if said engine already has flyable/controllable choppers in it already like BHD/JO's.Scale the existing tunnels up add a bunch of the Bldgs vehicles and decorations from all previous games.Then one could operate in campaigns around the globe from jungle to to city environments an everything in between.And of course include the mod tools from the gitgo.Could be a cash cow if done right.I dont see a what do you want in a helo game thread yet?Think we need one?
Now a question for you programming guru's...
How hard would it be to convert BHD to a chopper game.Restricting or removing controllable ground forces and enlarge the tunnels ? Import whatever that can be ported into the BHD engine with the BHD mod tools?
I've been itching to make some stuff since now that I am laid off for a bit.

BHD isn't where we would need to look, it would be Joint Operations it already has most of what is needed, 3 heli with weapons, mod tools and the ability to add new content.

What would need removed would be the other player classes exept for a pilot class.

The bigger issue is the joy stick controles and adding new weapons to the helicopters they should have hydras added for coop and single player use.
It's been a while since I played JO, but it seems the pilot controles guns the gunner fires the stingers. I neat set up for TDM (require team work.
), but a problem for DM or players that want full control of the whole air craft.

The biggest problem would be finding a player that could recode the game .exe.

Sorry Reaper have to disagree with your last post.

I think players should have full control of the chopper no matter what game type they play.

And Hydras should be made avalible for DM also. I've had many hours of fun playing guys like DustDevil in those games.

But hopefully Nova will listen, and hopefully they wont forget the other game types they almost left out in C4 like TKOTH and Search & Destroy.

PETITION

We, the worldwide members of the Comanche 4 Gaming Community, hereby petition NovaLogic, Inc, for a new/updated Comanche game program to replace/update our favorite game of all time... Comanche 4.
We have flown, worked on, and kept alive the current version of Comanche 4, for the last 8 years. In order to keep this game alive, many of us have spent untold hours learning all aspects of the original game and its files, to create some very masterful maps, scenery and tactical engagements, but we are now at the end of what we can do, because we have reached the limits of what the game can do.
We have supported C4 this long, because we enjoy the game, the battles, the tactics, and above all, the friends and friendships we have made over the years. Now, it’s time for Nova to step up and show us that our efforts to keep this game alive all these years, has not been in vain.
We need a new updated game, or new version of C4, with the latest Graphics Engine, more capacity for creating weather (snow, rain, etc), more choices for map making, like new scenery and terrain options. New weapons loading options, new aircraft coloring, updated video quality (preferably HD), and overall game performance enhancements, to bring it up to Nova’s current standards for gaming performance.
Comanche 4, as we see it, was Nova’s Flagship Game. The one game that got Nova recognized, and the one that all the others (since) have been built from. Now, it’s Comanche 4’s turn to be updated, to once again shine as Nova’s Flagship Helicopter Combat Sim, and the only one of its kind on the market.
Our members are more than happy to provide input and do testing at your convenience. We have websites, commercial and private game servers, VOIP, and many other communication or game server options available for your use, if needed. We have map designers, mission planners and plenty of top notch, computer smart guys and gals with years of experience in this program, who would love to assist you in anyway they can.
Our central point of contact for this effort is www.checkpointdelta.net, under Comanche 4. There, you will find many discussions on this topic. We await your input and hope that you become actively engaged in bringing us a new Comanche!

Adding a sig to the helicopter:
The problem with that is the way the game uses the player graphic file.
It may be possible to add a sig however only that player would see it.
This is also an area we as a community would have to really be cafefull of.
Keep in mind any time the player model can be changed some players would take advantage of it.

Knuckels were in agreement: players need full controle of the aircraft weapons for every gametype.
However having a game type were 2 players used the helo as pilot and gunner would add a nice twist to team play.
For an example players use comanche to play as a solo player attack helo with the Apache needing team work. Set the scoring so the team helo gets more points for a kill.

I also liked to play hydras. However over all that weapon got very little play over all in multiplayer. Hellfire was used very little even in single player or coop.

Players need to voice the things they would like in the game, so we can all look at it and if Nova does come read the threads here get an idea of what we want.

One of the advantages of playing the newer games Nova released, modding , map creating and mission building in C4 and those other games is you get a pretty good picture of what Nova has done with the game engine. I can tell you this. C4 has very little of the best this game engine was upgraded to offer.

The petition is great lets give the community a week to voice their opinion then you should post it at Nova.

That means the comunity needs to post what you want in the game. Once that's done we can combine it into one post so it has a better chance of getting read. Players can also add a copy to emails to Nova and reg mail should some of us do that also.

I wasn't speculating bout a player coding the game but NovaLogic doing it themselves since they know the code to begin with.For them it should be simpler then a player fiddling under the hood of the exe.Sorry for the confusion.
Good joystick controls are a must.A helo that needs 2 ppl in it may be interesting.Isn't there a helo now in real life that needs 2 ppl in it,1 to fly the other 2 gun?

Awsome.....Ready to sign, E-mail or whatever is necessary.

Well, I would like to see the following in an updated or similar Comanche 4 game:

1) cheater protection

2) Air and ground targets in Single player mode

3) Coop missions

4)Multi input controller compatibility and Force feedback support

5)Possibly the ability to have a protected Game username (so no other players can use your username)

6) Retaining the technology as in C4 where stingers smartly track a target without having to lock onto the target, but also better countermeasure ability than in C4.

7) A variey of aircraft models

I see every one of these as good ideas, but let’s be careful. If we go in asking for the next generation in gaming software, with all the bells and whistles, we may be waiting for the next generation to create it!
We need to send them a simple shot across the bow…. A petition, notice, letter, email... something that will get their attention that we want to talk to them and get them talking to us. Once we get a good point of contact (that we can rely on), then we can get this dog to hunt.

Step ONE: Let’s get them talking to us!

Step TWO: We need to agree on the things we know they can fix easily or make better with little effort, and get our C4 smart guys to help them get there. The key to this is to be very tactful when we ask, and be very cautious that we do not ask for more than they are willing to give.

Once they see that we are serious and have the knowledge to get this program in work, I think they will open up and pretty much ask what we want…

If it doesn’t work, all they can do is ignore us for another 8 years…

Anybody got enough money to buy controlling shares in Nova… ??? LOL

It is true that we shouldn't ask for much. My post above this one is merely in compliance to Reaper asking us to state what we would like to see in a update or new Comanche type of game.

It is my understanding that all of this will be reviewed and we will settle upon what request to make for a new update or whatever.

We surely need Nova talking to us first.

I'm just posting what I would like to see in a possible new update or game.

Is Nova responding to anyone in particular ? I think Reaper got a response.

This should address some game areas to start;

ANTI CHEAT, Nova Defender their latest anti cheat is catching some hacks. looks for out side applications addressing the game and altered game files. How ever search U tube and you fill find players still hacking the games and not getting caught.

As a side note last week Jester could not update his DFX 2 game so I extracted my updated .def files and .exe and sent them to him. That got me punted from the servers untill I did a complete re-install of the game. No files had been altered.

PLAYER NAMES, Nova has for years used player names created in your account, log into play a nova server that is the player name you get. DFX 2 does not even have a option to create a player name in the game. You log in to Nova to host games and to play. You are charged to rename your player once you use up your rename tokens. This is a anti pirate measure.

GAME TYPES, Each of the games have had new or diff games types, Nova seems to be releasing games with game types missing, but gives the players the ability to create the maps for some, example no dm for Joint ops or flag games. Dm maps worked then was killed with an update, then was fixed later. Flag games never worked. BHD was released with out COOP modders put it in however the files could get you banned if you didn't re-boot before entering a nova server.

So lets pick some game types and hope we get some of them.

PLAYER SKINS, Dressing up your helo, All objects used in the game have always been on each players game that info can not be sent player to player.

MAP/MISSION BUILDING, here is where C4 missed out, Nova made many wac commands server side sent to players, ie the players do not need the wac file for items like rain time of day changes and other effects. The mapping for JointOps and DFX use ai to operate vehicals the way missions were built changed. How ever you can put text on the screen and do other things building missions and maps C4 could not do.

MODDING, for some of us this is the most important thing want, Nova will not up date the game after the first few updates it will be up to the community to add new items, terrains and other user created items.

I am going to start a new thread just post what you would like in the game so we can start looking at what players would like, some of the items that are not possible can be pointed out and maybe some of the players who understand the games can explain why.
