it sounds fantastic but here is a thought!!

You ever had too many pilots for a match and they all want a piece of the action?

How about letting them see what a pilot see's in the game,
if C4 is running on the "viewers PC" then the programs are allready up and running on that PC and all that is needed is data from the server, the very same data that is sent to the player that is already in the game??? the data is just split in two or even more and the viewing pilots controlls are deactivated or some thing!!

anyway think of the traning that could be done with this!!

Well I think you are referring to a spectator mode. I know America's Army has that. America's Army has 1 life to live 10 min missions(no respawning till next game) so it's neat to watch the game while you are dead for something to do. C4 has a space bar respawn. There are lots of pros and mostly cons. It's kewl if used honesty, and called ghosting when used as a cheat to see locations of other friendlies and enemies.. It would also require more connection(s) to a server and prolly create lag.

Yes i see your point on the cheatig side of things this ghosting could enable. unless the player can decide to alow others to view or not.!!
I can also see that in order for this to work Ping times would have to be exact or at least the ping time of the viewers would have to be lower than the person that they are viewing other wise lagg would be encounterd by the player.
As for server the outgoing data from the server could be sent by the player instead, who i guess sends his/her position on the particular map to the server, could this data be sent to the viewer aswell? so server speed is un-affected

As for the space bar to re-spaun why not turn a negative in to a positive and make this an oppertunity for the viewer to stop viewing or switch to a diffrent player on the same side.

I know that the concept is wild and making it work is even wilder there are many hurdles to over come and i am no expert in code transfers all i have is a back seat drivers point of view with extreamly limited knowlage and i realise that im totally out of my depth.

But a grand idea it would have been for the ultimate download

Well it would be kewl like I said to a point. And it's prolly possible. I also think that to try something like this is beyond me at this point in time. I really want to stay with making the ingame experience better for each player. I personally don't care for spectator mode I'd rather be playing. :)

Well I still been working on the C4UD. It's at a 34mg download so far. It'll prolly be 40mg when I'm done.

12 Env's 17 Terrains, a few new buildings, S&D and A&D Unlocked, New Maps, to add to Our C4 Fun Times.

The C4UD is Not Available at this time. A few of us are working hard to get this put together for everyone. I'm hoping within 2 months or less..

It will be MORE than just a terrain pack.

My Online time & programming time has been severly cut. The C4UD is not finished. Not sure when it will be done. I was not able to get the NVG function working. but I will prolly go with a NVG Simulation Enviroment.

Your welcome to use the night evns I have on the Night Crew Site there r 2 green ones that would prob work for you. If you need some help with getting the last few maps ready I would give you a hand there too.

Maps you say. I wouldn't mind throwing a few spawn points out for a worthy cause. I was thinking about a map on a totally flat terrain with nothing but Spawn points, tile markers and farps. Figured I'd call it "Campers Hell". Well ok maybe a little scrub grass scattered here and there. Well maybe not. Don't think there would be to many that would want to play that. To much actual flying involed. :rofl:

wtf... I contributed to this and have held on to it for this long... and somebody else releases it ... hardly seems fair. It was mostly your work Avenger... but I would have liked the chance to offer it for download.

From what I understand. It was put up for dowbload there by someone that failed to ask permission. Which is why the update for the UD available there isnt correct. Anybody that downloads it will have to fix it later. When the correct files are made available.

I DO NOT Endorse any version of C4UD at this time. As near as I can tell this seems to be an incomplete rogue beta test version, perhaps from March. It also appears someone has even patched/updated it to get it to work correctly..
To have 1 ultimate download and then patch it, defeats the purpose of having 1 ulitmate download. Can you say Ironic....

I have to ask. Do you still plan on releasing the C4UD. We have all been hearing about it for a long time. It seems that you have lost interest maybe.

I'm not sure what my plans are now. To be honest I'm almost too steaming mad to even think about.
But I certainly would NOT have released a hacked/patched beta test version I was entrusted with.

To see Players having Fun is my reward, that's why I've build nice programs/tools/etc for the C4 community, but a handful in the community have went out of thier way and given me all the UNconstructive CRAP, and Accusations, and Disrespect.
You can only imagine how it is that 'No Good Deed Goes Unpunished'.

I want to make the C4 community aware that contrary to what has been said since the "Rouge Beta Version" of C4UD has been released, that *CFS* has not, nor will we install the Ultimate Download into our Public Server. Any Servers you see are not our public server and we have not santioned it. We will not be installing it until the C4 Enhancement team Releases it and put's their approval on the download. What ever individuals do is up to them. But we will wait until the release by those that have worked so hard to add new life into the game we have enjoyed over the years.

I can remember seeing the UD maps up for "testing" 6 months ago or so, and wondering when it would be up for download. Now I guess I really don't give a crap. Nothing against you, avenger, you've done a fantastic job helping out the game; just don't vilify the guys putting things up for download or putting them on their servers - it just shows how much they love the game and are starving for new stuff, and not that they don't appreciate you or what you've done for the game.

As to the UD. I don't think it much matters if you sleep with the disk under your pillow or have the code hanging on the wall in a nice picture frame. You might consider taking a cue from the biggest purveyors of unfinished software (and the greediest bastards) in the world - Microsoft : they wouldn't think of releasing software that was complete and finished (too many marketing options get diminished that way).

Of course, you could open source the thing. At this point in the life span of C4 I just can't see what the point of secrecy is all about - but that's just me.

People are only human and maybe methods need attention, but offence to you and the C4 GET team was never intended. Credit for making the UD can never be taken away from you guys.

But we have been waiting for a long long long time and a lot of people are leaving the game while we all waited and waited and waited. While rumours that you had stopped work on the UD grew, it was difficult just to sit still and do nothing!! some thing had to happen.

All I can say to you and the C4 GET team is sorry for any offence, but I hope you can see the community’s point of view.

Well, I haven't even started playing C4 yet, but I'll still add my support to Avenger in here... I'm a fellow modder and have been working on & off for a couple of years on the TXP2 mod for DF2. Like the C4UD, TXP2 is not finished yet, and if somebody had released the beta from last year to the public now, I would have been just as outraged as Avenger is now. It doesn't help trying to explain to such people WHY such a release is totally wrong. Releasing without asking permission simply tells it all about the integrity of such people. Their "love for the game" is totally irrelevant. Personally, I'll be working on TXP2 until it's finished, no matter if I'm the only player left in DF2 by then. If the finished result is great, the people which have true love for the game will come back, at least to try it out. Likewise, I hope Avenger will take his time to finish the C4UD in peace & quiet before releasing it, and not be pressured by anyone to make a hurried release. Let those who play the leaked release be ashamed...

What I can tell you from knowing Avenger the past two years is that he takes his work very seriously. When He and the GET were working on the player/host managers he was very particular iabout it, we(CFS) were the guinea pigs and tested for MONTHS and MONTHS for him to get any glitches/bugs out of it. A LOT of time was spent on those projects by him, so I can only imagine how much time has been spent(by him) on the C4UD. Bottom line, his name is on the line when it goes out, he wants it right, There are dies hards out there like myself, I'll wait, the game is fun without the UD, it can only get better. As long as two people are left in a server to kill each other the game isnt dead.

So, C4Guide is now offering the C4Get download. I find it unbelievable that I cannot even offer a download that I contributed in making.

Yes see here the Picture by a Loading from a Map, this is not good,
for the C4UD Mod.

The bottom line is - they did/do not have the Mod Author's permission to post the file for download. It is not open source and is an unauthorized download.

Now, they have a ripped version of the MOD - and a patch - that still does not equal the full download. ( I've seen a newer/better updated version )

What I would like to see is the official UD getting some encrypted info off of a remote server - doing a handshake - and giving a die command to the servers running it now. The encryption and requirements required to run it would be dynamic - so hacking it would give a sysdump to anyone joining a hacked version that is not kept updated. What would take minutes to set in the source code will cause the rogues who think its okay to steal the community's software would be forced back to tinkering (instead of playing).

The software was stolen - pure and simple. It was given to a certain few to beta test. They abused the trust that was given them and published it for download. I was also asked to keep the software off of the public servers. I did. Even though Comanche4 is dying - it is no excuse to do whatever you want. I don't care who says it is or the reason(s) they give for doing it, it is not right.

I have not posted about the Hacked version of the UD, But I have few things to say.

First I was looking forward to the new terrains and the extra media for my own use. I even put off some work I want to do waiting for it. I grabbed the hacked version of the down load before I saw Avengers post, Didn't know it was hacked and many of the players that can down load it now will not know either. Didn't even bother to instal it, Because It doesn't belong to the site that put it up for down load. The posts about the UD on that site speak for the low class attitude that see nothing wrong with what they did. I will also add they have done nothing to give you new media not even make a map.

I am going to leave the items I could use alone, Chances are Avenger wont release the original version now, Maybe he had enough and wasn't going to any way. Either way doesn't matter. He spent the time on it, he has the right to not give any one the work he did.

But i ask you all a question. If the few people in this community that spend the time to make items for the game can't get your support who will be left to give you new media. How many have to get pissed and stop working on the game before you get it. How many cool things are on someones computer some where and they wont share it because there is a hand full as asshats that ruin it for every one.

So heres what you do now hope that the people in this community that make new maps, work on new game types, design new enviroments, and do the mod work don't have a problem with some one stealing their work and getting no support from the rest of the community. Because there isn't enough of the rest of you to make any thing new for the game.

As far as the UD goes, now where do you go for support? You think the people hosting the down load are going to fix any bugs, Ill bet they add new maps in a few months when your tired of the ones you have now right....LOL

I don't know about that. There are a few out there still but most the players that were creative enough to make a map have left the game. You have Crash and ZAK. Other than that I cant think of another map maker out there. I don't go in the servers much anymore but when I have I dont remember seeing any new maps. And yes it is sad. When I started playing C4 actually had a community. Now, for the most part, it's an all about me attitude. I'm sure the top players will be really prod of themselves. Well until they look around and realize there alone.

Sharing with community members I know is one thing - offering it to everyone else - will now be a different matter entirely. I don't fly on the servers anymore - but I enjoy cranking up the game every now and again for a diversion.

More detailed buildings - that are a challenge to navigate... We'll get together Reap and come up with some ideas. They can go without - as far as I'm concerned. I can see from this thread alone, who will benefit from any further work. :wink1:

And another thing - ZAK - on his own - removed the link for the download on his site when he finally understood what was going on. To me - that speaks volumes. He, as well as others who have not jumped on the 'screw you, its all about me' boat, remain(s) hopeful that the UD will be released officially.
