AE 1040 Question

Inso, I have just got back up after doing some much needed maintenance work on my PC and adding a hard drive and getting things ready to install Windows Vista to start analyzing and learning it so I can keep up on my computer repair work so I haven't had time to do much with C4 the past couple of weeks. I have however found that I have started having issues with AE 1040 on the server. I have been monitoring it some this weekend but haven't figured out what is causing the issue yet. And as I said I have been gone from the game and the internet for a couple of weeks so I haven't looked through the forums very far to see if you have already answered this issue or not. AE 1040 keeps having errors in each individual thing it is monitoring. I have multiple error windows popping up. ie cannon error, health error, efam error, ect. Is this a know issue? It worked fine when I installed and for a while had no problems. I even went back and downloaded the TKOTH c4 exe file and reinstalled it and everything checked out. I did have the problem that Zak had with the mswinsck issue but downloaded and took care of that issue. I checked out good on the MD5 Generator and all worked well for a while. I'm not sure if it could be a windows 2003 server OS issue, but unlikely, or if the server company itself could have done some maintenance that may have removed some files, but they haven't said anything to us if they have, or if it is an issue with the AE program itself.

I just wanted to see if you were aware of the issue, and if you are if there is a fix. I thought it could have been a conflict with host manager, but I have had it shut down for a few days and the issue still remains. It does not happen immediately when you start it or start serving, nor has it happened while I was monitoring it. It always seems to happen when I'm away from the server, so I haven't been able to tell exactly what is causing the problem. I will continue to monitor the server more closely the next few days and see if I can find out what is causing it.

That I know of the only thing that should/will cause that to happen is if you close C4 before disabling or closing AE. If this isnt the case let me know. Also make sure you have the lastest download as I did repost ae40 after having some issues with Baron on the sai server. I would suggest a clean download and recheck. Also make sure that AE is in the game root folder.

I know that Ae will not work until c4 is already open. I am the only one accessing the server and I also know that c4 is up and running at the time, and after Ae1040 crashes. And it also shows on nova that ae1040 is running, but actually it has crashed. The only way you can tell is to alt tab out of the server screen and you are on desktop. Then you see all the error popups. So it is not a c4 issue because it keeps running after ae has crashed. I have to close ae so I can close all the error windows or they will keep appearing as long as ae is open. I will get with the rest of the command staff since I'm just part of it and maybe we can get something together where we can all look at our server since it is the only C4 designated server that runs at full capacity (16) 24-7 and no other programs or connections are running and let you see what is going on. I have no idea what is happening. I always troubleshoot our program and server to make sure there is no there issues that maybe be present before I even mention that there is an issue. I do know that our server is up 24-7 except for maintenance and that there are folks from all over the world flying so we have every kind of connections imaginable and the issues that go along with the udp gaming protocol so it is a wonder anyone can stay up and running and able to join and play as good as we do anyway. I wish I could be of more help but right now I have no ideas. Thanks for the work you keep doing and if I can isolate the issue I'll let you know.

Again please make sure you have a new download, if your download is 3-4 weeks old it has been replaced.

I know this sounds stupid but as you just did a reinstall make sure your running v20 and v15 and have updated it. would also help if you turned on your IM lol

I don't think your understanding my postl I do Computer repair for a living. The work I have been doing the past few weeks if you read is on my personal and work PC's NOT our server. I have the latest download and I only own the latest version of C4 and that is what is on the server. I don't know how much simoler I can make it. Sorry. It is not a server issue. I'm sorry that I have upset you but the problem is not a C4 or server issue. I have the latestest download you offer. I downloaded the thing today to to satisfy folks and this does not fix the issue. We were to report any issues we are having with the program, but every time I report something it is always blamed on something else ie like the cannon issue I reported and was accused of having hot guns (Not) I do appreciate the work you are doing but please don't keep questioning my inteligence. As you said in one of your post if I read what you had posted earlier I would know the answer to what I asked. I have already explained everything and this is just wasting time if I have to post over and over. Because of my work I do not run IM services. I only downloaded ICQ and yahoo for temporary file transfers and nothing else. If you saw the shape of the systems I have to fix because of Instant Messengers you wouldn't run them either. Believe me there are kids smarter than us making new programs to damage our systems and other writing programs and actually offering Virus and other security programs the fix for a certain amount of money and many using well known IM programs to distribute this damaging programs. I game for fun but my computers are for making a living so I don't expose them to any more risk than neccessary.

Hey Red, I am in no way trying to insult your intelligence nor trying to place blame on anything or anyone. Given the information you gave me I offered all I could. As someone in the IT field if you were posed with “It doesn’t work” “I am looking into why but haven’t found it” What would your response be? “I wish I could be of more help but right now I have no ideas. “ All I can do based on that is hit the basics and see if something pops. It’s not meant to be insulting or degrading sorry you feel that way. I recommended the redownload as the file was reposted 3 weeks ago with changes made to it and I have no idea which you have. When you have more information Ill be glad to try to help, until then I will refrain from offering what may seem to be trivial things to check. As I have not tested this with 03 server I might suggest not running it unattended until the issue is resolved.

BTW if you detect a tone implying that Im upset or mad at you Im not. In it, Imagine you just finished working on a pc when a few hours later the user leaves you a voice mail, "It dosnt work, dont know why but Im looking into it". You leave them a voice mail of things to check. They leave you a voice mail I check some things it wasnt any of them, still looking, you leave them a voice mail etc etc etc etc etc etc and on and on are you upset with the user? or are you frustrated by the fact that you cant get the user and the pc and the problem all together at the same time and resolve it?

I will load up a 03 server tomorrow after work and test run it.

This was started a lot earlier than it may look. I am a slow 1 finger typer. LOL

I know what your saying but I am presented with these type senerios daily and people cal me and say come fix it. I don't know what is wrong so I have to go in blind and eliminate different things till I find the problem. I have done these things with this and since I can rule out any window server 2003 issues and no C4 issues then I have to say Im not sure what is happening to it.

I guess if I was going to explain how I perceive server 2003 I would says it is a slight upgrade from windows 2000 it seems to have more of windows nt similarities than Xp. It is what we would call a mongrel (Mixed Breed)here in north Ga. With no knowledge on how Ae is designed and written and how it is suppose to work. And I do understand why this info can't be given out. I have trouble shot as far as I can go. I also realize that we will be facing this same thing possibly in a few months when Vista starts hitting the market. As I stated earlier that is why I'm installing Vista now before it comes out on the market as a beta tester for microsoft to find the issues and trouble it has if any with other applications. I am a trouble shooter and repairman and sometime software troubleshooter but I do NO programing . I can fix most Operating System problem and hardware problems and can figure out many popular and some custom built program issues which are normally file, or network errors if business customers but when I find the program that isn't working I have to get in touch with the program support to fix their issue. I have monitored the program some more and have found nothing unusual that would cause this problem. As far as running it unmonitored I wouldn't do that. If there is anything that could possibly cause a server crash such as an application error of any kind. I will not run the program. I am running our host manger when Ae is not running. that is why we haven't had any server down time except when the server company has to do some needed maintainence in a very long time. It has been extremely stable for over a year with no downtime except for the server to make a scheduled power changeover. This is nothing new to any that have done any upgrades and tried to make the game better. Remember I am with *CFS* and have known and have heard and saw and worked with folks that try to better C4 and we have had to try to figure out why things are not working as they should. I have worked with others on issues concerning the banned txt and the hacked weapons and sometimes we never figured out why something wouldn't work properly. I wish I did have the knowledge and ability to write and design programs to do what I want them to do, but I don't and at 50 years old I don't really have the desire to learn a whole new side of the IT industry. It will change 3 times in the next 5 months anyway. LOL when they discover a new and better way.

AE has been running on a 03 server here for 2 days without issue. 218 logins. Same game settings as my 00 server. Without some information to go on and better way to communicate with you Im not sure what I can do to help you.

I think everything is ok now. My guess is that there was a problem in one of the maps loading, so C4 would shut itself down and return to the server screen. It doesn't log a sysdump.bin or sysdump.txt because it's not a sysdump. So I'm not 100% sure but this seems to be the only answer I can come up with right now. Since there is no log kept for these problems I am making an educated guess, because I have not been in the server when this actually happened this time. I remembered this when I did run a server at my house. I have taken the suspected map out and all seems to be well since.
