controlling vehicles

Howdy, got a quick question. there are numerous vehicles that you can operate and drive around in in DFX. I have been playing user made maps that i have downloaded and have found all kinds of vehicles that can be driven including pickup trucks. I have gone up to several helicopters and seen the options to "sit" and "control". I aim at "controll" and press the shift key and the helicopter will start up and the rotor will turn. However that is it. Ive hit every key on my keyboard and nothing else will happen. So I assumed thats all you could do was start the engine( but no flying)
However, when Ihit the shift key to "controll" the chopper there is something that pops up in the upper left corner of the screen that looks like some type of altimeter such as you have in comanche 4.
which leads me to wonder " is it possible?" Can i actually fly the chopper?
would love to hear from any one who could clear this up for me.

I'm wondering what I'm missing here..because it works for me. When I get in a chopper, it cranks up and I press 'E' to take off and 'Q' to land - using the mouse to change direction. I think 'A' and 'D' strafe the chopper. It takes some time for the chopper to get going... maybe you aren't waiting long enough ?
