Which would be a faster server setup.

P4 2.4 gig, 1 gig DDR, Win XP Pro:

Play and listen server - non-dedicated.

P3 933, 512mb, Win 98:

Server - dedicated.

I know if both systems being equal, dedicated is better, but in this case they are not equal.

Which could handle more players and be faster?

Thanks. :)

both have ample resources for either play and/or serve.

the question is the upload bandwidth & consistance. playing on the server uses little or no bandwidth & really doesn't effect the speed.

Interesting, so if I ran a dedicated server, and also connected to it via a client, I may end up taking up more bandwidth than simply playing on the same server?

Thanks. :)

P.S. Bandwidth will be (being upgraded this week):

DSL line 1.5 mb download / 384 kb upload

yea, possilbly. but the packets don't have far to travel, so i don't think it makes much difference.

if you were to ping your own server on the same internet connection, it would probably ping in at 10ms

anyway, your on the right track with the dsl line. that should host really well for ya (provided you don't have to share it with half the population :D)

Thanks for the help.

I just hope there are other loner players like me who are interested in deathmatch. :D
