Please use this thread to post any ideas, and/or what you would like to see in this Expansion Pack add-on for C4

I would like a realistic flight model that had 360 degrees of pitch and roll but this might be to much to ask for :spin:

Under cover of darkness...realistic night missions! Like the kind avalable in Comanche 3:ar15:
[Edited on 2-12-2003 by Charger]
My sugestion is that you have more air support on missions.
Ive notice in the new vesion of the map editor , there are flags and flag bays for seek and destroy and capture the flag modes , now , if i select mp_gametype = 4 in c4.cfg file it displays another type of game in the selection when you host but no maps ,
My question is this , can we lable maps so that they are other than co-op , dm or tdm
and if so , will changing this mp_gametype = 4 enable something like this , i have been trying to get this to work for a while now , and just cant seem to get any maps to show ?
So i guess thats what id like to see is our 4th game type , seek and destroy or capture the flag , im sure that mp_gametype = 4 is enabling something , just wish i could lable maps so i could see what it does , If any of you clever ppl know , pls let me know .

Hi shadow, that is a very interesting find! I will without a doubt check that out myself. If anyone else has time or already knows what's up with this chime in please!!!! Another thing along these lines that has puzzled me as well, anyone notice that on a converted stock map nova put in KOTH zones?????? hmmmm...........
i did notice that , and i would love to get a king of the hill mode too , that would be awsome , I have always used a koth as wp alpha in DM games , and it seems to just mark it the same as a wp alpha would ,
having said that , i also saw a line in the cfg file sayin max_team_lives = 100 , could this be the king of the hill limit???
or just another limit imposed on tdm's????
I seem to remember playing long games that went over 100 points , so im thinking not , hope it koth related

Long ago, when I had a stable conn, and would occasionaly host games, I did notice that they had KOTH zones in some of them, usualy around a 200 meter circle.
Another thing along these lines that has puzzled me as well, anyone notice that on a converted stock map nova put in KOTH zones?????? hmmmm...........
Ive gone into some of the stock Nova Maps , to add some farps in the TDM's, its always a pain to go all the way back to the base or some outlying farp in most of the game maps. So adding farps to the area's around WP Alpha, always made the games more fun, and eliminated the time it took to go back and reload. It seemed to me that you were flying back and forth, more than fighting.
Just an observation, I just figured it was one more thing Nova gave up on, in C4.

Was thinking that the new maps to be released in this should be DM TDMx2 and TDMx4 any thoughts? or should we stick with the stadard TDM of 2x..........

Hey hutch, all of the terrians I have created I actaully tested out in LW first to check them out at a closer level! lol walk'em then fly'em, I dont see any reason why there could'nt be a 2nd LW exp or a first TFD exp utilizing some of these terrians. Good future thought I presume.
to include: o btw as I belive BHD terrians are set on the same principle as C4 terrians I dont see any reason why the same wouldnt apply there as well.

It's too bad Novalogic doesn't see the great potential in continuing to support this work of art - Comanche 4.
It's great to see someone supporting this fine game.
Some ideas:
1. Defend and destroy missions like in Snake's Pit:
http://www.checkpointdelta.net/cgi-bin/loads.cgi?C4/tdmver2.zip
2. The inclusion of all previous custom maps / missions by other author's (with their permission of course).
It would sure make it easier to get them all from a pack - all set up - than to have to use PFF utility and try to include them - especially when running a dedicated server.
Or have some kind of drag and drop or easy installer of other non-map pack maps. :)
3. The inclusion of Auto-Explode (or whatever is next after that).
4. Automatic function to exit game, reboot computer, and have shortcut that automatically enters game into a server mode - running necessary settings - especailly since Autoexplode needs the computer reset every 24 hours (unless that's already fixed). Perhaps this can be a function added to Auto-Explode itself - automatic tasks of running certain things for servers.
I look forward to this. I often play other games, but Comanche 4 definetly has a special place for me.
Thank you so much. :)

Can this be moved into that thread.
Very sorry. :(

Inso,
With the opportunity of making a universally acceptable change to Comanche 4 in the form of an expansion, I was wondering about the chance of removing some of the explosions from some of the buildings and objects.
While messing with the 3di's, etc. some time ago , I think I remember seeing some referencing to the explosion effect in the file, along with the replacement file name, the 3dix file....
I don't know if its possible, but could the needed files be edited to stop the madness of everything you shoot blowing up ?
It just seems that the program wouldn't have to work as hard on the graphics end if it didn't have to 'stand ready' to display the pyrotechnics and replace the undamaged 3di with its damaged equivilent.
Thanks

:ar15: I LOVE THE FACT THAT ONCE U BLOW SOMETING UP IT STAYS THAT WAY!!!IT IS MORE REALISTIC THAT ONCE U SHOOT IT IT STAYS SHOT UP. THATS JUST MY THOUGHT ON THAT. :). U JUST MIGHT NEED A BETTER VC IF U HAVE SOME PROBLEMS WITH EXPLOSIONS. LOL
U MOST LIKELY DON'T WOULD BE MY GUESS!!!! IT MIGHT HELP ON SOME OF THE LAG ISSUES SOME PPL HAVE.???
MY NEXT COMMENT IS THAT MAYBE AE CAN HAVE A SCRIPE WROTE TO IT TO DOA A NETDELAY EVERY 5 MINUTES FOR THE UNLUCKY ONES PLAYING WITH DIAL UP!!!

I'm not sure the idea of removing the explosions would work anyway... Some people would have the explosions and need the time elasped to have their 'air cleared'. Those who didn't would have an advantage.
One way to do it, if it is even possible to turn them off, would be to select a 'standard' set of buildings or items that would cease to explode when you pressed an EXPLOSIONS ON/OFF button.
Just an Idea.

If it's a permanent thing, I would suggest not doing this.
One of the greatest things about Comanche 4 are the explosions and how they stick around - unlike your typical engine.
What kind of system do you run?
Upgrading your video card and CPU is a good idea.
A good video card for your money is the GF 4 4200. As for CPU, I'm not sure what system board you have currently, but any of the latest P4's (2.4 +) or Athlons 2100 - 2600 + will run this game fine.
It would be a bummer if the expansion pack didn't include all the great effects of the regular Comanche 4 game.
I LOVE THE FACT THAT ONCE U BLOW SOMETING UP IT STAYS THAT WAY!!!
now there is something everyonne hates==playing a game and having everthing getting 'un-blown up'...
Upgrading your video card and CPU is a good idea.
great idea==if you are payig for it. not everone has the cash to upgrade. and not everyone needs to be having there 'puter working to show someone all the way across the map blowing up tanks of oil.
besides, rex asked for the option
sum of us hav 56k - and exp could offre what we cant njoy now.

I personally wouldn't play any game if I didn't have the hardware to support it. For example - I don't play UT2K3 because my FPS isn't satisfactory with the game. I don't request the developers make the game any less - it's my option to upgrade, or play and deal with it as it is - or not play it at all.
Same thing happens when a person gets on my server and says he's experiencing lag. I ask where he's from and he says some area across the globe. His ping was pretty high when he saw it on the server list, why did he join the server at all?
I don't join servers where I have a ping that will cause me lag. If I do, you won't hear me complaining of lag - that would be my own fault. Joining a distant server is no worse/better than joining a closer server at 56k - depending on circumstances.
If you have limitations, it's simply a question of upgrade, play and deal with it, or don't play - that goes for any game.
In the case of Comanche 4 - the big highlight is the graphics and the fact it takes advantage of a GF3/GF 4 (or Radeon):
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=games_comanche4
Eventually more games and engines will be utilizing this stuff, and taking up more CPU processes.
Comanche is known for its CPU usage - it's often used in Benchmarks for that purpose, for example:
http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/amd_athlon_xp_3000_review/page9.asp/
What makes the maps and missions so great in the game are the amazing visuals and movements. It requires a lot of CPU and GPU power - but most games will in the future anyhow, Novalogic is leading the pack with the Comanche 4 engine.
Doom 3 will do the same, so if you haven't upgraded to a 2 gig with GF3 or higher video card, you may want to consider doing so sooner than later. Eventually most games will require it - Comanche 4 is ahead of its time in this respect.
Although, I do advise only upgrade to what you need at any given time (or for any particular game) and what will get you satisfactory results - i.e. look at benchmarks based on your favorite game's engine and get an idea of what hardware you'll need to play it smoothly. If you upgrade too far for the future, most likely when a game is released the system requirements will be even higher than expected - with addition of features such as shadows, reflections, particles, more effects, super detailed mapping, netcode, etc.
Removing any advanced features and effects from the game, is more of a downgrade than an expansion.
Just my opinion.

Expansion can be a term that works both ways. An expansion into what is not offered and an expansion into availability. The downloads sections of many DF places offer many corrections to Nova's 'shortcomings' or 'mistakes'.
I posted my original question to see if it could be done. Though it is very likely that it can be done, it appears the prevailing attitude for this expansion is to leave them alone. Perhaps another time.

Even if people disagree, I say keep up with your ideas.
It would be an okay idea if it were all server side with some kind of way to relay such settings to the client.
The only thing I think is going to be a potential downfall to an expansion pack is if clients are forced to download anything - from the Quake 3 world .. client side mods are rarely popular unless they are total conversions.
I hope there are two packages with this expansion - server side only and one that requires client side - and somehow a way to inform players. Otherwise I can imagine a lot of frustration if players have to download and they are newbies.

I would simply like to be able to write a decent briefing without the character restriction. I hate the fact that I have to include a text or doc file for instruction.

Well for months now I have heard of this Exp. pack, and like everyone else, I was fooled into thinking that Novalogic might actually care a bit about what's going on with what I think is one of the greatest online games available. I am very pestimistic about ANYTHING that I hear about Nova putting anything out to improve on thier game. In my experience with Nova I found that thier attitude is sell it to the public kick out a few patches to help with the major issues in the game and then forget about it, on to the next thing. I nkow the exp. pack was being worked on by some of the C4 community's most dedicated members Inso, StrayCat and whom-ever else was helping, but I have heard nothing else since a few months ago. Whether it be an expansion pack or a C5 I would love to see some new maps and some new game types like Search and Destroy, TKOTH and CTF games would be a great addition to the game and I think. I would also like to see a custom paint scheme incorperated into the game. I have played the Papyrus NASCAR Racing series since 2000 and in eveyone of these game you can do custom paint to your car and others can see it if they have your paint file. Would this be so hard to do..? I have no idea because I'm a GAMER not a PROGRAMER lol That's why I buy games, and not write my own :) I know the guys in the squads (like myself) would love to put thier Squad logo and callsign on the side of the Choppers. Anyways that's my 2 cents and this is Nova Forum so they aren't listening anyways lol

I had an idea that I beleive is very dooable.
I would like to see the current Built-in Novaworld Login pages "Startup.htm" & the exe embeded resource "lstartup.htm" modified to contain links to a common location or lounge, with the purpose of organizing and building C4 Squadrons and tournaments, user chat and a bullitin area would be the minuim requirements.
A site like checkpointdelta would be ideal provided it was accesseble and visable from within the multiplayer area.
Current standards could be readily established by diseminating the necessary info to the users whom currently are forced to find out the hard way that glitches exist and the definition of fair play is defined by the consience of C4 community.
I've captured and modified to test it out and it took me less then a hour from conception to functional beta.
