Does anyone know if there is a tool for connecting to other C4 players, other than the standard NovaWorld Menu screen? In other words, has anyone created an IP4C4... similar to the IP4LW and IP4TFD?

i dont belive so LH but because the pff_7 extractor opens c4 pff files. i would say maybe IP4DFLW could be converted to C4 . but im no programmer so just shootn in the dark :cool2:

Oh , please!

Nice helpful reply shadow!

Hi LH, no currently there is no IP4LW clone to function with c4. Current options aside from nova connections are http://www.kali.net

As for the possiablity of it in the future, Id say the chances are better then you think! :baddevil:

Hi LH, yes this is possiable to do. I have tested it out with a few pilots. It is a direct ip connection to a LAN server. Seems to be working out ok. I will be leaving the server up for a day or so for further testing. If youd like to give it a try here are the instructions.
Be AWARE this is NOT again NOT a code mod to the game!
Go into the C4 directory on your HD and make a backup copy of your "Startup.htm" file. Then go here ftp://ftp.deepstrikesquadron.com/startup/ and download the zip file. Unzip both files into your C4 folder (MUST be in the COmanche 4 Folder not a sub-folder of the c4 folder)and "yes" to overwrite exsisting "startup.htm" Start C4 and go through as you normally would to join a game. The Login page will be new and there will be a link to "DSS Practice" that is a dedicated LAN server click the link and you will join the server. Or click the Nova link for the standard Login page. If you (or anyone) has any problems please let me know asap. When this has been tested further I will post instructions on how to do it. Am currently working on a web page to list these "LAN" servers as they will not appear in Novaworld server list. I welcome all to test this out and give some feed back here so we may further the development of it.

i hope you can do it Inso!

Some have noted difficulty connecting to the ftp site so here is a http download as well http://www.deepstrikesquadron.com/startup.htm

Thanks, Inso! I downloaded the zip file, but will have to wait until I replace the power supply on my new computer system in order to try it out.

Actually, I was hoping to check pings to game servers on NW, but then there are so few to begin with... LOL

Am working on an interface run this. This is mearly a test so far to see how and if it would perform vs standard game play. The interface will include ping times.

Hi again, ok having had some time to reflect on the whole idea Im having some mixed feelings. With the low level of pilots and servers already out there in the nova list Im thinking that making it smaller by creating these servers will bring this game to its knees. The newbies that are just buying it and the rookies that have just started it will not have any interest if there's no servers and no players in that ..#.. nova server list. They wont spend the time looking or even know where to begin on the web to find out how to join these (direct ip) servers. The problems with this functioning the same as it does in LW are that the connection method and game code is different between the two. The best I can tell at this point having a server do both the direct IP and nova list for login would require a mod to the game code itself, (I think:-) which Im not willing to do and post to the general public. If I manage to do this without a code mod Ill let you know. Until then Im thinking the Direct ip is something we save for a later day when nova has totally bailed on us and there is no other way for us to play. We need to keep our servers and pilots in the Nova lobby so these new guys coming in have people to play with.

Just my opinion...................................:stupid2 :

Maybe use it just for hosting.
But the Newbies should see the matches too.
Most squad members stay longer than individuals

01-10-2003, 01:23 PM
Thats a real good point u make about newbies noy being able to find games , but then when i started playing this game and (any new game i get) i went straight for the novaworld website and saw all the squads listed and sarted clicking through till i found the great guys im with.
I think single player missions are getting the ppl hooked(liked they did me) and then they are venturing into multiplayer online , where it isnt hard to find all our squad home pages with info about your program , I dont think we should abandon nova servers but i do think we need to have that alternative to host our own IP games for days like today , i've never gone so long without a fix , I had to start my single player missions over again , I wish i saw this earlier today , I'd have been on your IP server helping to test all day
I hope you do decide to let us in on how its done some time , Keep up the great work.

I will think it through again and continue to work on this until it is finshed, and then well go from there. :spin:

A server on any day nova is down would be a good deal. And even if some of us feel nova should put more work in to comanche. We still would need to use there servers. If for no other reason than C4 is a small comunity as games go. So if theres going to be a nother in the series to come out. nova needs to see there severs being used. So they see a market for it. As for the newbie's the best way to deal with them is give them some tips and help when thier in the servers. I know most of the squad guys already do. But we really have a need for this just like auto explode. were lucky have have someone around who can do this for us. Thanks INSO

not to instill false hope... but there is a chance that once BHD is done, novalogic might take an interest in comanche again. once they have completed BHD they will have some experience with this new engine.

i would really like to see a C5 (or whatever). i think that we should encourage novalogic to do so.

Just an update. AE is now updated and fully functioning on the new server. :ar15: 8h and efam patches have been tested and are working great. The first match will be hosted on this server tonight well let you know how it goes.

Server has been up 24/7 since tuesday the 7th total logins is now at 207. We hit a record yesturday at 89.

Anyone still working on this???
Has the startup.htm just been changed to receive a particular game from novaworld, or does it point to a static ip? Good work so far INSo, if you've gotten this far, a user's change to the startup0.htm file to input a static IP must be forth-coming...I hope so anyway. or does it have this capability already? You have started something very promising here, I only hope that you've found a way for the user to enter an IP address.

I certainly hope so, as an IP4C4 would be a welcomed tool by the entire Comanche 4 gaming community!

i would really like to see a C5 (or whatever). i think that we should encourage novalogic to do so. a C5 would be nice bro but even better would be to make dfbhd ,C5, armoured fist 5 and f22 lighting 5 from same engine . and have all gm types mentioned above to play on same server. say have tanks attack helos df fighters and the f22 jet . lets have a compleate war on line heck yes http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/trans/fahr01.gif http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/trans/fahr09.gif http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/trans/fahr39.gif http://community.the-underdogs.org/smiley/people/offuzi.gif http://community.the-underdogs.org/smiley/people/bigchop.gif http://community.the-underdogs.org/smiley/people/launcher.gif

Direct Ip is pretty much dead now, as far as I know. What you can do is open a server through nova and pass word it. Give the PW to your buddies, It wont help with lag, but small groups should play OK that way.:1drink.gif:

I'm not sure what your asking. If you have a log in account at nova , you use that name. If you are trying to set one up and It wont let you , Try a differnt name , Mabe someone is using the one you are tying to reg. There is also a place on the user page to update your info such as change your email addy and other things. Give a little more detail about your problem. :1drink.gif:

Well - with all the no counts we experience... the cabling we can't monitor without directly checking - and nova still handing out form letters and references to their ancient FAQ for replies concerning IP to IP connections - I don't know how much further we need to be ditched.

Sure would be nice to at the least be given the chance to post a lobby for our matches and practices.

Not fully understanding the server/client interaction before talking with Inso - (and still not, actually ) I was hoping the program (ip to ip) would accomplish more than it appears it can.

From what I can gather - our server connection is basically already ip to ip with Nova setting up and negotiating the connections.

As for the No Counts.... it appears that as long as the macros enable multiple stingers to be fired at one time and Version 1.0.1.15 keeps it's allowance for 'splash damage' , without giving credit to the person firing the stingers that creates it , the problem will remain.

As for the cheats (and deciding who is and who is not )... I'm now almost convinced that anything except a major change in the exe's code prevents an advance... After frustrating hour after hour of wondering how to overcome them... locking down a server and choosing who you play with... seems the viable option.

I dunno.. maybe Inso has more to add...after all, he's got frustrating YEARS of it under his belt.

Some of what the players in c4 would like could be helped with AE for verson 2 if Inso would be willing. It would score the splash damage as a point. even better if the health setting went to 3h instead of blowing up. Just an idea.

Hey again,

Not sure that this will clear up missing pieces for any or all but here goes...

The purpose of IP4C4 was intially in the hopes of reducing some of the lag and possiably the non counting kills that everyone has experienced. As it ended up, it will not resolve either issue. The way that C4 functions and that IP4C4 changes it are this. You host a public "nova" server, once you click the host button in the menu, your server tries to contact the nova game lobby server for c4. If it can not make the connection you will not be able to host. If it can make the connection the options for your server and your servers IP addy are sent to the lobby server. A update from your server is sent to the nova server as follows: at each join or exit by players, at each map cycle and when you stop your server from hosting (I also noticed that an update was set appx every 10 secs aside from these). The data packets that are sent are very small resulting in little to no bandwidth loss to the server itself. Next in line to that, once your IP addy is sent to the lobby server, a script is run on that IP and it is encrypted into a url link. That encrypted address is the link you click in the lobby to join a game. Your (the joining player) pc running c4 decrypts that url and extracts the ip addy of the hosting server, hence when you join the game you are in fact joining it via direct IP. Nova is only supplying the lobby to view the list of servers and in a very poor way checking that each person has there own copy of the game by requiring players to log in to see that lobby. Servers running on IP4C4 will not be listed in the game lobby, nor will they require the login to nova as they are point of fact LAN servers The mdoified startup.htm that I sent out to players to join for testing had the servers IP encrypted the same as nova's lobby does, as such to your c4 everything seemed normal and right on target.

I never released it due to three things, 1) It really served no benefit over the way things were at the time. 2)That it does not list these servers in the public lobby and if 3/4 of the players started playing on servers that didnt exsist to the new comers, the community would have gone down the tubes in a rush. 3)The only way to allow for both joining via direct (without nova lobby) yet also allow for listing and joing from the lobby required recoding the exe itself in addition to the external file changes (startup.htm) As I put it months back, this really should be saved for the day nova no longer supports the game, IE: When the lobby and the ability to play no longer exsist through nova. Yes it exsists, yes it works, but it honestly will not afford you any advatage over what is in use currently, nor will it resolve any issues in the game.
:flames:Any one out there think nova is willing to give written consent to modifing the game code? :baddevil:

Reaper start a seperate thread for AE V2 and lets discuss it in there. (not mean just makes finding info easier as Im sure others what to know as well)
