Welcome back!

You dont need any patches... All the servers currenty running have no mods.
I would suggest the No-CD fix from here. http://www.checkpointdelta.net/cgi-bin/db.cgi?db=file&uid=default&Game=C4&view_records=1&sb=1&so=ascend&ID=*&mh=100
It's the 4th one down on the list.

Well, for better or worse, I'm back on the scene as well (maybe). :)

Got the game installed, trying to update it but no joy. Just downloaded the file from this site, hope that one works.

Anyway, I hope to see you guys in the skies before too long. Now I just have to figure out why my old account doesn't seem to be working anymore... :(

Okay, can't seem to connect to the server. Already signed up with Novaworld2, so not sure what's wrong now. Updated too.

Sparrow 3h, its realy nice to hear from you again, its been a loooong time. You are
one of the pilots that helped me to learn how to fly, you where from another squad (Chaos) but still took the time. Thanks. And later you wrote, Sparrows Survival Guide, that has helped a lot of pilots over the years. I still have a copy on the SAISquad web site.

Thanks guys. I was really surprised to learn that some of the "old timers" were still around.

By the time I got the game installed, I was pretty excited to get online and see what was going on, but just couldn't get into the server to see what games were going. I've tried it on three different computers now, all with the same results (white screen, nothing else). Any ideas?

Hummm how warn out is your disk?., Maybe your getting a bad instal.

Hmm, hadn't thought of that one. Just checked, and the disc is in very nice shape (no scratches or scuffs). Also, the game plays fine on all three computers when on single player or when hosting a LAN game.

I'd thought that maybe there was some secret update that I needed. Guess it won't be that easy after all. :)

Hi Sparrow:

Nice to see you here. I read your Survival Guide. Great stuff. The best pilots put into practice the lessons therein.

I started playing C4 in 2003, but didn't find out about this great forum til 2004. I think I only saw you in a game once or twice, but I was always referred to your guide when I first started playing C4. One of my first teachers was CO Reaper from DIE squad. He taught me things in the guide you wrote, and referred me to your guide. It's just good to see you in person, to sort of speak. I salute you Sparrow.

Now, about getting connected for multiplayer. Could it be that you are not updated to the version 1.0.1.20 of the game. Could you have a 1.0.1.15 version on the disk. If so, i'm not sure a mix match of versions could be the cause of you not connecting to the servers, but maybe Reaper or Blue knows. If the update is not still available, the game is available on Steam for $9.99. There is an issue where in multiplayer mode a player will have a blank name when using the Steam version of the game, but a fix for that issue is available here at CPD.

I hope it all works out for you soon enough.

Again, nice to finally see you around here.

Thanks HotShot! I remember you, and I think we met more than a few times in the servers. Good to "see" you again. :)

Also, you nailed my issue perfectly. My disc has version .10 so I've always had to update to .15 whenever I installed it. That was done, but I was not aware that there is now a .20 version. Found it thanks to Google, hopefully I didn't pick up anything nasty from the place I downloaded it from.

Trying to patch now, wish me luck. :)

Huh, succesfully updated to .20 but still having the exact same issue. Enter account name and password, then stare at the white screen waiting for something to happen.

Windows firewall is set up with an exception to allow C4 access to the net. I wonder if it could be my router? Although it is the same router I used years ago. Has something maybe changed on the server side of things?

Have you replaced your startup.htm yet??

I have been out of town the last 2 days, so this is the first time I have been back to the thread:
OK the game version you use does not matter, I do have a thought on what the problem is. I don't think it's the game instal or files at all. If you put in your user name and pass word to log in and a white screen comes up, I bet your account info is messed up at nova. I am going to send you a pm with a spare user name and pass word to try. If it works you know the problem is your account and not the game. By the way it's been so long since I had you in my yahoo list I need to invite you again.

Thanks again Reap. I'll let you know if it works once I get a chance to check it...

Still no luck. I was thinking about the connection, and where it is trying to connect to. Can you tell me if this looks correct?

IP address for ftp.novaworld.com is: $1A004348

I pulled that out of one of the files in the main folder...

Hey Sparrow go to your c4 folder and click your startup.htm and see if you can login that way.

Update:

I've managed to get one out of three computers working so that I can access the servers. I even got to play for a few minutes before I got a sysdump error and gave it up for the nite.

Unfortunately, the computer that is working is not the one that I want to use for this game. Now, here's the weird part. I even tried copying the entire Comanche 4 folder from the computer that works, and pasted it into the folder on one of the computers that don't work. Game ran fine, but still could not connect. The only major difference between the two computers is the OS (Vista is working, XP is not working).

I even tried shutting off the firewall, but made no difference. All of these were installed from the same game CD, and all received the same update patch. And, strangest of all, I've played the game on all of these systems in the past. Weird!

Reaper, I did not see an email from you that had any links... But I don't think that would help me anyway, since I've already swapped files around between the working and non-working systems. Thanks anyway. :)
