I plan to combine the ideas of armored fist, DF, Comanche 4, and for kicks the F15, F18, Mirage, Mig29, Hind, AH-6, AH-64, and some more, you pick your poison, and romp out into the yard. But beware, i kill those i catch in my yard
The real kicker is, the only model im lacking, is the comanche, the maps are done, all other vehicles are done, passive stingers work, i have a contact who supposedly has a working comanche i can edit to fit the C4 schema.
we shall see.

The TXP site has the C4 Comanche in .obj format in their Download Center. It can be imported easily to 3dMax.

I am not a modeller, i dont know or use 3dsmax, madels which have been exported to the correct format i can code from scratch however. I coded most of the ground vehicles and some aircraft in Desert Conflict.
Making them work, physics and Function wise i am an expert, modelling i dont even touch.
Update:
I have the 5 blade rotorhead assembly for the comanche, i need the body now! lol every little bit counts!

I have the Comanche, with working weapon bay doors and all.
now the painful task of building it into the mod, it needs weapons systems coding from scratch and its basic flight systems code makes it fly kinda like a hind. eeeet wrong. the coding i can finish on a Dr Pepper binge over about a week! the basic texture job also leaves something to be desired. it is UVW mapped so all i have to do is edit the DDS texture file which i can manage just fine.

Oh by the way I'm saving up my pennys because I plan to buy Novalogic and put out a Comanche Flight Sim that will blow everything away...

unfortunatly the lives of most of the devs are to busy for modding right now, 3 of them alone are new fathers. and one now has his second child. I am none of the above yet.
I am about to release DCONX 0.24b
Desert Conflict Xtended 0.24b
0.22b has been out for better than 6 months and it had big popularity for a little while but it still holds down usually at least 1 server at a time, the germans and brazilians seem to like it!
The big difference and the point of this thread is i am bringing the comanche to it, then it will house infantry warefare, airial warfare, tank warefare, and all at the same time on half the maps, some are infantry only, some are armor and ground vehicles only, and most are combined arms. And at least half the maps have combined arms or ground only both available!
Plus i will make some comanche 4 style maps, with farps scattered around! BF2Editor gives you much more flexibility than c4med.
Custom terrains dont involve editting the voxel images which makup C4s terrain system! BUT bf2s terrains operate somewhat on a voxel system. But much more in depth, and not on a locked set, you actually design the terrain for each map individually.

Very soon there will be Comanche 5, and not by novalogic!
programming its flight systems has begun, take about a week, maybe week and a half to get it flying about right, then the weapons systems will take a few days to program, test and fine tune! the passive stingers are shoulder fired at the moment, havent tried firing them from a moving vehicle let alone nutzo moving helicopter. from the shoulder they actively seek out heat sources without lockon within a set range of view.
as far as targetting systems for the weapons systems, i can get most stuff very close to C4s settings, the tail camera is a bust if you want crosshairs with it. autohover is a bust. BUT inversions are now IN, unlike c4 you will have free motion to roll flip and manouver yourself into the most amazing crash positions. :freak3:
I need input on 1 major thing for the weapons, do we want all stingers for the missiles, or do we want a spread of hellfires with the stingers????

Personally I prefer Hydras instead of Hellfires in C4, but if you can do something cool with the hellfires for yours, I'm for it. :2ar15smilie:

Remember in C4 because of network lag hellfires are almost useless in TDM and DM due to there tracking being dependant on the clients not the server. In BF2 hellfires work fine! and they can be set for laser guidance, dumb fire, or to seek out stationary targets GPS style.

This sounds great, but I'm not sure how BF2 fits in. I have BF2, but I'm on Vista 64 and BF2 wont run for me. I've tried running the ,exe in XP compatibility mode, but that's no good either, so It's on a self just sitting and not being used. :(
So, when you finish this work, what will we need to enjoy this effort of yours? Will we need to have BF2 installed or what?

yes, you will need BF2 installed, BF2 works fine on 64-bit, actually better than fine.
I am developing and testing all this on my 64-bit rig right now!
Get with me on a messenger of some kind and i will help you get it going. This will be a mod for bf2, but it will be capable of 64 player servers, 32v32 FTW or any number less than that, not the tiny player limit of C4.
BTW hotshot drill down your specs in a reply, complete specs mind you, and i will give you some kickoff ideas for making it work.
also you you and anyone else, i will be in the following teamspeak for a while, feel free to join me and chat instead of typing!

I am only 1 man to be making maps for this, it has about 15 maps as is, but i need you guys help, BF2editor is a free download from EA just install it ontop of BF2 and start making maps, at the rate im going this will be released within 2 weeks!

the comanche now has passive seeking missiles, they work great!
there is no need to lockon to a target, the detection cone is 90 degrees(45 degrees up, down, left, right)
they track really close to the curvature of c4s missiles and in testing with a buddy i was able to strafe out of them about 50 percent of the time doing some pretty nuttz manouvering....
The loadout i decided on is as follows:
12 stingers in the bays
8 hellfires on the EFAMS
a third weapon position which fires nothing, just so you can disarm the hellfires.
I think i am gonna make the hellfires track the crosshair position like C4s do if you dont have a lock on something. right now they have no homing period, just dumbfire.
The nosegun is controlled by a co-pilot, there is no way to give the pilot control of it because the game does not support auto-aiming of weapon turrets. the nosegun is technically a turret.

with a config file hack you can change the maximum mapsize from 1024x2 to 1024x4

also you can turn off the combatarea so that the terrain outside the map is accessible.

i will be on my teamspeak tonight, info follows for you to join me, I will post up the mod as-is for download and host a server for us to battle it out, the goal is to test the coding of the flight physics and the weapons control systems and targetting systems, by beating the **** out of it we may find the weakest links which i can fix now rather than after full release!
And feel free to stunt fly the thing and/or take some screenies and video clips of the testing to show off your madd flyin skillz.

I know the mod itself will only run on BF2 because we linked to some of BF2s code definitions rather than doing them from scratch completely, and BF2 and 2142 do not share most of these defs. Same engine, same code, but different coding bases, the groundwork for the code is different.
i saw BF2 for sale like 9.99 somewhere just recently. or the downloadable complete collection version is on ea.com it will be like 6 gigs tho.
Just to clarify, the number of maps vehicles and content in this mod makes it total 1.2 GB itself. This is not a empty partial development....

Yes, but on an XP64 rig, right ? I'm running vista ultimate and when I click on the edited shortcut (+menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050) I immediately get the little 'BF2.exe has shut down' dialog box. Everything is updated. Running as admin.. Tried XP mode... it just doesn't work.
UPDATE: Now I can get it to start - but all I get is a blank black screen and a very busy hard drive. I cannot exit out of it and have to reset/reboot to get control of Vista back.
UPDATE: Comodo Security Problem. Up and running. We'll see you when we get there.

BT i saw you were in teamspeak, my mediacenter PC is in TS dedicatedly, just yell out and if im home i will hear it, its tied to my stereo system. its audible to the whole house.
Also watch the text box i might tell you be right there and go to start my main PC.
media pc has no microphone. again just shout to me, if im home i will hop in or chat to you in the text.

My cousin just got back from Iraq, he is with the Navy, its party time tonight, im treating him, and we are gonna go out, talk about his time over there, then more then likely erase it with beer.

Great work MasterX. I will need so time to learn to fly but it is no more difficult than C4, in fact I would consider it better replacement for c4. I encourage any C4 players to test this out. If you don't have Battlefield 2 complete edition, download from EA it is well worth the money to be able to add the mods by MasterX :099.gif:

For those with BF2 here is patch 1.50,
it is supposed to address Vista Compatibility problems as well as break third party stats systems, the stats system part i already unbroke.
They released a year overdue patch which was supposed to break Third party Ranked MOD servers, well 4 hours after downloading the patch, i have bypassed completely there blocking code, i wonder just how many EA people worked on that part, and how stupid they must feel when it took them 1.2 years to build this patch, and took me 4 hours to break through its protections!

to be clear im not cheating it, im enabling third party scores tracking identical to what EA themselves provides for a steep fee per server.

Feel free to copy and paste this original thread, sigh the same thing happenned on the main site.....
The main thing is, the comanches are in the levels with 128 sizes.
in the levels lists in BF2CC or in the create local menus ingame, you will see many maps with 128 after them, these are the current comanche maps.
more will be given comanches as time progresses.
the 128 does not have anything to do with mapsize, its just to differentiate.
and if you find you dont like something about the flight and weapons, post your feedback here, i relegate your statements higher than most as we are all comamche 4 fans here.
post your likes/hates and if i see trends i will adjust things as such.

server files can be found here, note you need the BF2 1.50 Server Files as a pre-requisite, or you can host from inside the game itself although it wont be in the server list, would have to use IPs.

FYI to host a server for this here are the needed open ports!

BTW, my server is offline due to hardware failure, good ole WD hard disks.....FAIL
If someone has a Server they can host on, i can assist them to set it up, and they can call it the Official Comanche Server at least for the time being,
recovering my box is gonna be a long dragged out process, it wasnt a corruption issue, it was a Hard Disk motor failure, the kind that says all your data is gone period!

just to clarify, my web servers are fine, the gameserver box is the failure, all my web services still operating normally.
