Well, as most of you are aware, the founder of CPD passed away on May 5th. It has been a very long week.
I had not been informed until I called Paul to find out how he had let the domain name expire. After the news, for 2 days, I was unable to react. Though many of you might not remember Sentinel\Anthony\Rustinsk... some of you will. To me, he was a fellow who taught me - a complete internet noob - everything from how to behave on forums to how to actually install a CMS and run a server. Even though he was younger than I am - he assumed the role of a mentor - and a fine one at that. After he had me trained, he (at least I believe) conveniently claimed he had contracted the CRS (Can't Remember S***) disease - and had me take care of the site. It was, and continues to be, a great honor.
So, this week, I was faced with several decisions. First and foremost was what to do with CPD - and the wealth of information, files, maps and terrains that she has. I could not justify watching what Paul started just vanish. I was able to renew the .com name, but for reasons including being able to move to better servers and honoring Paul's Memory, I thought we would move the site to a .net home. I discussed this first with Charger and then with Guardian (the behind the scenes genious for much of the orginal CPD coding) - and decided we would continue on this path. So, here we are.
There have been a couple of changes.
No longer will you have to be logged in just to view the forums. To post, yes... but not to read. We would like people to register, and appreciate the patronage, but accessing the information included on the site will no longer require you to be logged in.
The signing up process will be easier. No longer will you be required to have someone vouch for you. Steps will still be taken to prevent bots from taking over the forums, but this process will be made less painful.
These changes are completed. Please email me with any concerns you might have.
Thank you to those of you who dropped in to sign Paul's Guest Book at Legacy.com. It was uplifting to see your signatures.
Well, I guess that is it. CPD is up and running.. Thanks for your support . Let's honor Paul with civil and enjoyable conversation.
