View Full Version : Map Help
I've been playing allot of razorball lately and have made a few maps also. Had an idea for a map but not sure if it will work. This is what I was wanting to do.

It's easy to have the player die on the second area trigger. But I don't know about being able to reset the flag on the first. Does anybody know how to dothat or if it's even possible.

I might be off but doesn't the flag reset when a player touches the opponents flag? So that would mean the trigger is local to the flag? So you might want the flag to reset on an "out of bound"? Only played razor ball once or twice and that was so long ago I completely forgot what happens.
Razorball is just flagball with knives only. Usually played in small enclosed maps. It's alot like playing football. One player takes the flag and you try and push past the other team to score the goal. What I've seen allot of lately is people trying to either glitch out of the map with the flag which puts the flag out of play or people using wall hacks to run outside and then run back in to score the flag. What I was hoping to do was create a area outside that would first reset the flag to the start position in the center of the map and then kill the player outside. Killing the player outside is the easy part but doesn't do much good if it leaves the flag out of play.

Just out of curiosity - is it not possible to find the trigger that sets the flag back to default after player touches it and just apply the configuration to work with the out of bounds? I wish I had BHD in here to test this out, sounds intriguing but I've misplaced my disk.
I've looked through the events list but not exactly sure what I'm looking for. I've never really done much with events before.

You should be able to print the event - maybe you could do that and I could look at it. I'm looking for my BHD disk so you might even be able to send me the WAC file. If you want.
LOL I'm working through the Events option in the editer. Don't even know where to start in making a WAC file.

Oops...yeah. I still can't find my disk but You'll probably figure it out way before I'm sure. :)

I've got it installed, I think... if I can figure out what exactly you are trying to do - and there is code to do it... I'll write a WAC this weekend. I'll need the area trigger numbers though.

Razor ball is actually "Flagball" right? I'm guessing this is a game mode that isn't handled by a WAC but actually by the engine. I tried downloading a few maps and none had a WAC attached.
Well good thing Blue, I guessing one of my kids borrowed my BHD a while back and forgot to return it...kids.
I did see one flagball map a while back that had a WAC file that would take out any of the opposite team that was in the flag bay area. So WAC files should work.
Razorball is played like regular flagball. Just with knives only and smaller maps. The map starts with a green flag in the center of the map. Each team tries to force there way to the other teams side to score the flag in the flagbay. Once the flag is scored the flag resets to the center of the map. What I'm trying to figure out is how to set an area trigger so if a player leaves the map area with the flag then the flag resets to the center of the map. As for area trigger numbers it doesn't really matter. I haven't made the map yet. Was wanting to figure out if I could make this work first.

Well, I'm an ass. If I can get this to work and if you don't mind, I also want text to flash across the board. Something like...
"LOSER" has glitched through the wall in an attempt to cheat and will now die. The flag has been returned.

Don't give up yet... I'm still on it. As you've found out... resetting the flag is proving to be the prob... and destoying and replacing the old one with a teleported one... is not really the way to go, imho. So... will keep looking.
Kewl BTR. I appreciate the effort. I wasn't to sure about it when I came up with the idea. But most my good ideas pan out this way. But hell thay look real good on paper.:agree.gif:

So I start laying out the map and set this up... but now I'm confused. The way you were describing this... there would be one flag used on the map used over and over ? If I remember correctly...normally, CTF actually has several flags and each team has to get all of the other teams flags to there main flag to win. If I'm understanding this correctly, what we are trying to do is if ANY of these flags is taken it is returned to the orginal position... ?
If this is right... I'll go from here... if not, well, as I said... I'm stumped from the gate.
Were playing Flagball instead of Capture the Flag. In flagball there is only one green flag in the center of the map. Each team tries to get the flag and score in their flag bay at the oppisite end of the map. Once a team scores a flag the flag resets to the center of the map again. Plays kind of like a football or soccer game. Each team tries to defend the flag carrier to score the goal.
Here's the BMS and MIS file for one of the maps I've made. The maps are pretty basic in design. There made for razorball which is a knifing only game.

Geez Rab... here I am thinking I'm gonna have to do this and do that. You said killing the player outside of the area was easy... returning the flag was what you wanted... so here it is. Kill yourself holding the flag outside of the area... I've already removed a couple of walls. In fact, do it a couple of times - it is meant to reset.
If a player with the flag glitches outside of the walls... I guess it might be possible to have text trigger on the event - but saying so and so is outside the wall may be more difficult.... but you would have a warning.
Let me know if you want it.
Umm I don't mean to be picky and all, But is there something missing. I see the area trigger around the map but nothing happens when you cross it. Was there suppossed to be a WAC file in the download.
As for killing the player it's just a matter of setting two more area triggers and one setting in the item properties. You need to do that on each side of the map. LOL If you set an area trigger on opposing corners the player would spawn inside and die.

Kill yourself holding the flag outside of the area... I've already removed a couple of walls. In fact, do it a couple of times - it is meant to reset.
THEN add your killing areas and play the map. That would make a total of 5 areas. 4 areas deal with the player - 1 area deals with the flag. If the player is in one of the 4 areas - they suffer death. If the Flag is out of the 1 area (and the player dies and drops it.... which the killing areas take care of) it is teleported back to the original spot. You can't teleport the flag while a living player has it.
I will build it tonight. As for the WAC, I'm not sure using it will work in MP.
LOL OK my mistake this time. I thought you had already added the flag return. I was running around with the flag outside the walls thinking "This doesn't work.". But as you can see by the pic I added the area triggers to kill the player. I did that in the editer after I ran through the map. So after reading your last post I ran the map again with both sets of area triggers in it and yes it does work. Thank you very much for the help. I'm hoping this will ruin the day of many a wall hacker.

Hey RAB, not so fast... you gotta let me add a couple of things...lol. Let me get home this afternoon whip it up and get you to join me in a closed server multiplayer to test. I want to try it out with a WAC - for text effects. Something like - "The Flag has left the playing area but will be returned after the cheater dies."
Of course, we can tone it down to "The flag is out-of-bounds. It will now be returned ". We'll need to test this... to make sure that someone can't run in and out quickly enough to stay alive and get away with it and make sure that the resets are working correctly.

LOL I was hoping for something along those lines> But unfortunately you can't get the text to display for players via WAC or BIN file. BTR tried em both in a test server. But the events and triggers work perfectly. Many thanks to BTR for taking the time to help out with this. That's one thing that still sets this site apart from most others out there. The people here that take the time out of their day to help out others. Thanks again to BTR and everybody else around here.:waving.gif:

YW duder - but I'd have felt better not having you wait for 2 weeks to finally get it. I spend most of my time 'in the weeds' now (for those not from the south - that means running behind) - but was determined to resolve this.
Sorry the text didn't work. Would have been helpful to everyone playing the map to know the flag was being reset. But it will be nice to know that you can continue to play in a closed arena without a cheater being able to ruin the game.
