Here's a little thread that might be interesting. Everybody has a nickname that they use in games , sites (like this one), messengers etc. . The question here is how or why do you use the nickname you use.
Mine started years ago when I had purchased my very first computer. Right away I was told "type nickname here" , so right away I just started looking around the room to type in anything I could think of. Believe it or not my first try was "Wrigley" because a pack of gum was on the table. I got the "nickname already taken , try again" LOL , so I typed in the very next thing I saw and yep, that's when >Doorway< was born. I've stuck with it since. Anyway , that's my story , what's yours?

Mine was Easy....first 5 letters of my surname ,, SC is for saber corps and 95 is/was my squad #. Use a couple of others in the early days of cooping (Warlord, Jade Ring), but finally just settled on HUTCH SC95 and left it that way.

Good post Doorway,, should be intersting.

Im a Jimi Hendrix fan, when I started C4 in Oct 03 I was "voodoo", since there was a "voodoochild" already running around...after a couple of months I changed to "Watchtower" for the Dylan song(perfected by Hendrix) "All Along the Watchtower"....lol but all the Europeans asked me if I was a Jehovahs witness because their main publication is called the "Watchtower"...lol..anyways Im not Jehovahs Witness.....just Watchtower.....then I joined CFS in 12/03 I proudly added my *CFS* tags.

Pretty cool how you guys came up with your nicknames.

When I first started talking on the CB radio I was trying to come up with a handle and much like Doorway just looked around my surroundings and happen to look out my front window and seeing the car I owned at the time - 1984 Dodge "Charger" - well I think you can figure out the rest, I just carried the name over to the Internet.

I always played arcade games when I was younger. When you got a high score you put your initials in. So when I started playing C4 that was the first thing I thought of when it asked for a player name. By the time I thought about making a kewler nickname everybody already knew me as RAB so I figured I stick with it.

Blue I always wondered, now I know....

I guess the names look a little bit strange for you. But in germany you can find the name as often as "Bob" or "John".
"Joggl" is the short way of "Joachim". My sister called me when I was a baby and later I found a different way to write than others. Most times it´s written "Jockel" and this is also an acronym of "Jürgen" and "Jochen".

I usually use Black Fox, or second is Vulpes Velox (which is latin for Swift Fox). I used to play a video game called Star Fox as a younger child, and when my parents bought their first computer I went nickolodeon.com (I feel like a dumb@$$ telling you this). I tried signing up with Star Fox. Taken. I got silly and put Invisible Fox. Taken. Red fox. Taken. Black Fox was availible and somehow it just stuck with me. Vulpes Velox was an endangered animal I read about, and used that sometimes as a subsitute for Black Fox.

My first nickname in my first online game was
kill_me_shooter
as i thought this could help me getting a steeper learning courve.

As c4 does not admit more than 15 characters it changed soon to
kill_me{FWD}

Now it is
*[FWD]*KM
as i do not want anyone to feel insulted by my nickname or to think i would be suicidal.

My first online game was C4 and when I first started playing on line it was at the time when suddam hussain was still the boss in Iraq and the US/UK assault had only just started.

I was a newbie (like we all were) and I died all the time no kills to my name and I had usually about 20 deaths lol

Because I was loosing badly all the time I thought I would call myself “So Dam Insane” it’s better than Griffon and I like to see suddam hussain lose all the time hehehe

Anyway time went by and I got better and then I was asked to join a new squad being formed called <CoN> but the tag would not fit after the name!! So I lost the insane bit and kept the So Dam!!

And from that day to this it has never changed lol

Sorry I can't take any credit for making the sig. All I did was add 10 frames to the end of the existing sig. Hardly enough to say that I made it.

LOL very interesting revealations!!!!

OK My turn:

My fist C4 nick was E5B. I was a radio operator in the Marines, an a personal call sign consisted of one's pay grade and the 1st letter of one's Last name. So since I was enlisted my personal call sign was E5B. Enlisted=E, 5= Rank or pay grade E-5 or Sergeant, and B the 1st letter of my last name. I thought that really looked bad, so I thought to get a nick that sounds good and strikes people when they see it.

So I thought to use HotShot, so if I killed players and did some good flying players would ask: what are you a hotshot or something? hehe Also, since we use stingers, players may think oh he means Hot Shot cause the stingers are hot and blow you up. LMAO

Well, that's my story and I really was glad to hear the story of others. Especially RAB's, So Dam's, and Joggl's explanation, cause I always wondered how they came to use those nicks LOL!

Cya all around.:waving.gif:

Not quite rookie enough to stick with Griffin, chose an intro level course on "stingers". Doesn't seem I'll ever reach the 200 level courses though...

Phaser
08-23-2007, 06:19 AM
Hello Gentlemen...:waving.gif:
When I first started playing c4, I chose the name Widowmaker, because, being an Aviation Engineer, I have worked on the F-104 Starfighter in Germany. I found out, at that time, that the Starfighter was nicknamed 'The Widowmaker' because it was always killing its own pilots, it had an inherant design problem. It was designed to fly fast. but to land it, it had to fly slow, this caused a great deal of unstable air flow effects on the wings, and if the pilot was not very careful the aircraft would flip it nose up and do a backward summersault just at the crucial time of touchdown, the Starfighter was probably the hardest aircraft to land. My c4 experience was very limited at first (we've all been there!) and I just thought "I'm gonna die here" hence Widowmaker.
I later changed my name to Phaser, after a Sepecat Jaguar pilot I once flew with and admired, he was a bit of a cowboy and could break the sound barrier then slow down enough to let the sonic wave catch up to him. The only person I ever knew who could do that! He used to entertain us this way every time he did a landing circuit of the runway. Sadly he was KIA in the first Gulf War. But his memory lives on.
