Hi Everyone, Im new to the forums and I have a question. I want to play multiplayer with Comanche 4 but it says that I have to get the Update. So far, so good, so on the Comanche 4 main menu I click "Update Game". The game quits and a box appears saying "NavaLogic Update Wizard v1.0.09v". Then under it says "Contacting Update Server, please wait". I have been waiting for over 1 hour and a half and nothing happens. Can somebody tell me if something is wrong or am I doing something wrong? I want to play Multiplayer, so is someone able to help me please?

Not sure why the updater isn't working for you but try downloading the update direct and installing it after. Look in downloads page this site for the official Novalogic update. You can find that here (http://www.checkpointdelta.net/cgi-bin/db.cgi?db=file&uid=default&Game=C4&view_records=1&sb=1&so=ascend&ID=*&mh=100).

Sure it's not a firewall issue?? Delta.

The game simply will not start up under single player. It starts and runs fine under C4lan.exe but not c4.exe.
Here are my system specs:
Gigabyte k8nsnxp s754 nForce3 250GB
AMD A64 3200+
eVGA 6800GT
SB Audigy 2 ZS
I have reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, updated, disabled firewall/antivirus, tried cracks, different update downloads etc. The exe shows as running under CTRL+ALT+DEL, but nothing happens. Not even a whisper from the DVD-ROM drive (I only have one). I have tried installing in my normal game folder, my OS drive, and tried running the program in win98 compatibility mode. I have scoured the net for fixes and this forum has the only people who have the same issue as I do with the game.
This has me pretty upset and I dislike Novalogic even more for their shoddy websites and lackluster support.
Can anyone help? Thanks!

The only time I have had this happen is when I don't have the CD Rom in the drive. The only fix I remember seeing lately - Make sure your screen resolution for the desktop and the game are different.
I had the identical system you have before my last upgrade ( but different mb) - and the game ran just fine.

The CD is in the drive, and I know the game can access it because it does so when I open C4lan.exe. I have tried many different resolutions (I Normally have my desktop at 1600x1200). Now, I have a few computers in my house running XP, so I tried installing C4 on one of my older comps which I never updated to SP2 and - Voila! It works perfectly.
Back to the issue....I think I may have found a hint - when I launch C4lan.exe, and it tests my GPU, it tells me my system failed the 1280x1024 test. But on my older computer (ABIT NF7-s v2.0, AMD AthlonXP 2000+, ATi 9600 pro, Soundstorm) it passes all tests (up to 1280x1024) with flying colors!
A disparity certainly exists here, as the 6800GT is a couple orders of magnitude more powerful than the 9600pro.
I updated my drivers but to no avail. I really dont want to do an OS wipe just to play this game on my good system. I will keep digging and hopefully either myself or someone else will post an answer.

My 3200+/6800GT system would run 1600x1200 when I set it up manually in the config - but only temporarily. It would soon freeze, crash and burn. I finally just set it on 1024x768. Hope you resolve it. Curious to see what it is.
My P4 3.2 and ATI 9800XT will run 1600X1200 no problem. On my 20 inch moniter anyway. Never had any freeze problems with it. I do hear alot about problems with Nvidia and older games when using the newer drivers. 80 series and up. Jester rolled his back to 78.?? drivers and has no problems with BHD. Same game engine as C4 so I think it would work about the same.

I installed C4 on my wife's PC to test SP2 and it works flawlessly.
I am completely boggled here.

Well, I went off the deep end - I reformatted and reinstalled WinXP.
Fresh install, fresh drivers, pop in C4 - APPLICATION ERROR.
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application."
To me, that sounds like I have too much RAM.... or something. I have 2 gigs, so I take a stick out. SAME DEAL. I try a reinstall of C4 on a different drive. SAME DEAL.
Gonna try rolling back drivers....
Sounds like a hardware conlict to me. I just cant imagine what it would be.:spamafote:

I read something about changing the compatibility application on the exec. This might be a long shot and it was basically on another application that gave the same error so I might be way off base with this. He also mentions about a memory function that he disables. Take it for what its worth cause I'm no computer expert and hope by all means you get it figured out.

Is it just in single player, or is it happening in multiplayer also? I was having that problem in single player and traced it to the use of hex keys in pilot name. If you use pilot editor it can cause conflict in single player mode. It will work fine in multi player. I simply added my pilot name without useing hex keys and it works fine.

C4.exe will NOT even bring me to the single player splash screen on a fresh install, no pilot editing to speak of.
The only thing I get now is Application error when I try starting C4.exe - not even a whiff of the game.....

Helo (pun intended),
I also had the following problem Crusadis describes:
The game simply will not start up under single player. It starts and runs fine under C4lan.exe but not c4.exe.
C4.exe will NOT even bring me to the single player splash screen on a fresh install, no pilot editing to speak of.

Although I do not remember the exact application error, I could start C4lan.exe but not C4.exe.
I downloaded and applied the NovaWorld IBrowse.dll patch at:
http://files.novalogic.com/misc/novaworld_update_121903_xx.zip
Info from http://www.novalogic.com/updates.asp:
---
Security Update, Delta Force - Black Hawk Down, Delta Force: Task Force Dagger, Delta Force Land Warrior, and Comanche 4
This security update is to replace the existing Ibrowse.dll file, which manages some of the communication between the game and NovaWorld. The update assists in protecting communication from outside inspection, tampering, or theft. We highly encourage all users that have and use NovaWorld accounts to migrate over to the updated Ibrowse.dll. Make sure you are NOT running the game when updating.
---
After applying this I could start C4.exe and play the game. I can't say what it has to do with starting C4.exe since I have not been to NovaWorld, I was just trying to start the game in Single Player (offline), but I do notice it tries to establish an internet connection at some point. Nevertheless, this patch it fixed it for me, perhaps it might work for you aswell (and maybe some of the others experiencing the startup crash).

Thanks a million bro. That ibrowse.dll fixed it!
I followed the included instructions and the game took off immediately. I have no idea why the game would have been coded like this, but I am glad to finally have a fix for this!
THANK YOU!:waving.gif:

Yes, thanks! I have been after a fix for the same issue for nearly a week now since getting the game. Made several postings around the web and even tried contacting Novalogic, with no success. Their Knowledge Base was somewhat helpful as to what the problem might be. But otherwise...
It's kind of funny that no more than five minutes after finding this forum through Google, I had an actual email reply from Novalogic. Not that their fix was the correct one, mind you! :D
BTW, does anyone know how to move the C4WIN BIK movie locally to the HDD? It seems C4INTRO can be moved for some reason, but not the other file. I ended up using Bik&Smacker to make a copy though, while it includes sound, it doesn't play the sound while doing so though the game itself...
