View Full Version : I Quit
I started playing C4 some 2 1/2 years ago. Was a great game back then. When you went into a server it was to play with other people the loved to play the game. Nobody really cared who was on top at the end of the game. You just played cause you enjoyed it. Sorry to say that has changed drasticly now. Most people I see now are just worried about winning. I don't know how many times I see people drop out of a game when its close to the end when they're at the bottom of the list. Sudden video or sound problems that never effect them in a winning game. Now days it seems camping and base raping is the preferred tactics. Never found much fun in sitting behind a hill and popping up to fire and drop back down. When it becomes the standard to do that GEE won't it be fun. Everybody sitting behind there own little hill for 15 minutes while the map ends just wondering where everybody else is at. Well in my opinion yall can have the hill all to yourself along with the rest of the game. I'm tired of all the BS that has come with it. I talked to someone not long ago that can fly 9999H and slip past the 8HAP. Now there a new worry for the rest of yall to deal with. By the way Avenger thats done in the .DEF files. Don't know if you can find a fix for it but wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to try. Seems like every time someone does something good for the game theres someone else right behind em working another way around the rules. Well to the vetran pilots that taught me so much when I started playing. I'd like to say thank you for the many hours of fun. To the others that just want to win. Well I don't have much to say to yall except goodbye.
As for the pilots that leave with me. I've flown as many and will list a few.
LT Griffon, G O D, TheGrimReefer, Vinnie, PingusKahn, Glen, UnclePervy, Benny. Oh and some might have known me as just R~A~B.

nooooooooooooooo don't go rab ! come back and play in the league, bro !! This season has been 99.9% whiner free ! In fact, last weekend we started an allstars thing where 1 or 2 guys from each squad play in a 2 team TDM, and we all get on TS and yak - we had a great time, and plan on continuing it. All the league squads have been behaving themselves, and we've even been playing some matches without any host manager/ae at all because the squads actually have started trusting each other, and have started to realize that its for the fun of the game that we play ! The issues in open servers are unfortunate, but the game in the league is still clean - come back and play with us dude ! I always enjoyed playing with you, and you will be sorely missed if you leave us, man !
-truly bummed,

Yo Bud, you sit where many of us have been over the last few years. Thats why so few play. When the game stops being fun it's time to take a break and do some thing else.
There will aways be players that glitch, cheat and play in a manner that is unsportsmen like. When you run a server as much as you have , You just see more of it.
Some times the best thing you can do is put up a small server and play with like minded players. We have BF2 to look at and BHD is still fun. C4 will take on a new look when you play with friends in a closed server.
All in all C4 is just about dead any way, On the bright side you had hours of fun, learned to make maps, helped new players learn the game and made new friends.
LOL besides we can always open a server play some version 1.5 at one hit.

hey RAB,
i understand, that you are sick. why don't you sign up as substitute in the Comanche4 League. league matches are still fun, they are
'guaranteed 100% BS-free'
actually i do not know anyone who wouldn't miss playing with ya.
C4 is more than only the game itself, it's us who know each other for a long time and most of us do not only play Comanche4.
you'll find everywhere in every game as..oles, nothing easier than that, they are identified after the first couple of games you played with them.
i would be happy to know you'll be staying in the community.
btw
you plan on looking into bf2?
I tried BF2. I tried 1942, DC, DCX, Vietnam and POE. Sorry but did'nt much care for them. Figure I'll play BHD for a while. I know the map editer already so making maps is still an option there.

I know you said you never really cared much for first person shooter types game RAB,ok np man.
You gotta have fun at this stuff ( online gaming), hope you get it back with BHD
Hope your not going to QUIT the friends that you have made in C4 tho??

You are the only reason I am playing this game now. I remember when I logged on for the first time as a Griffon. I had never played an online game before and I was getting the crap knocked out of me. You reached out to me and invited me into a server and showed me the basics of flying. I was so frustrated right then I was going to quit and I know I would not have returned. I have seen you do the same thing with many other Griffons also.
Since then you have helped me when my PC melted down, setting up my router, js configs, setting up ts, pc settings, disguising my family pc as a server lol and that just what I can remember off of the top of my head.
Thank you for your freindship and all of your help over the past year. I would ask that you reconsider quiting. You have been and are one of the finest people I know in the gaming community and I would truly hate to see you leave. :traurigbncry.gif:
Sincerely,

JJ I really dont know about you and your friend situation. But with me, True I have quite a few friends out there, But I never consider myself lucky enough or have enough friends to afford to loose the ones I've made. When I first started flying with KA7 in the 1st C4League season. I consider that some of the best times Ive had playing the game. I considered myself a pretty good pilot at the time. But the things I learned while flying with KA7 improved my game more than I can think of. All the time spent just BSing on the vent server were just as fun if not more than the time we spent in the game. I consider myself lucky to be apart of the KA7 history and to have all of yal as my friends. Sorry bud, You stuck with me now. If you like you can warn the rest of the guys too. I might not be around as much but Im never really that far away either.

Well I hope you know Snake it the people and pilots in C4 like yourself thats kept me in the game as long as I have. This wasnt some spur of the moment descision I made. The problems I see have been here for a while and are progressivly getting worse. Helping the new players in the game was just my way of repaying the vetrans that helped me when I started playing. The way I see it. If you help the new players, teach them as much as you can, then when you come against em later you know you have a good game ahead of you. I like the game for the challenge of the fight. Thats seems to be what is lost now. Its not people playing against each other anymore. Its people playing against the scoreboard now. Was flying in my server a while back, maybe 4 or 5 minutes into the game another player informed me that he was in my seat. I bet after every kill he made he would hit the K key to see if he had taken 1st place from me yet. The scoreing is great at the end of a game to let you know how you did. But I never considered it a vital part of the game play to need to check it every kill to see where I am on the list. Top middle or dead last. As long as your having fun it really doesnt matter. And remember I still have the same e mail and IM. You got any questions or problems come up you need some help with. Well you know where to find me. You can bet if theres something I need and your the one that can help. Ill be calling on you quick. Thats what friends do for each other. LOL just like I said to JJ. Sorry man, You stuck with me now.

Welcome to the quit club.... Somethings never change just takes longer to hit home. I know you will find a lot of fun in another game if you find the right folks to game with I did..
O}{NO
Yea I'm sure I will. It's just a shame though because I still think C4 is a great game. If you have the right crowd of people playing. I've been in the game long enough to have seen all the people that have left for pretty much the same reasons I have. Slowly but surely the C4 community is getting smaller and smaller and yet people don't understand why. Or I should say they don't want to understand. When you play a game like this it's suppossed to be fun for all the players in the game. I myself don't find much fun in having someone continually pop up from the same spot for a whole game to shoot passive. I also don't find much fun in sitting behind a hill just waiting for someone to fly my way just to get the chance to pop up for an easy kill. I play the game because I enjoy the challenge of coming against other players in the game. When everybody camps and does pop ups it takes away the main reason for playing the game. Not only for me but many others that used to play. As im posting this there are 11 people playing C4. Thats really pretty sad of an online multiplayer game. Think back even 6 months ago and there were 3 or 4 times that many people playing. Now just ask yourselves where did all the people go and why did they leave. Well I've been trying to tell people for a while now and nobody wants to listen. In another 6 months when there are only 4 or 5 people left in the game, Still nobody will want to admit it's because it's the way they play that has run all the other people away.
Sorry to hear about your leaving RAB, but truely understand your decision. I am just about to do the same I guess! Not playing C4 as much as I used to do. But still like playing it with friends.
I do not really agree with what you said about some players. Sure, the one or the other might whine, or not behave, or even cheat. But if you look at other games, then you will find a lot more players which do that.
The only thing which has allways p***** me o** is the fact, that some great guys from the community tried to find solutions to make C4 better, while Nova not cares s***!!!
I have already desided to move into a other arena. A arena where the manufacturer seems to worry about making the game better and not the community. Where they find solutions to fix problems with the software, hardware and even cheaters!
Take care and thanks for the fun I had flying with you, against you and in your server!

well, I still wish you weren't quitting rab, cause there are still plenty of guys that are having fun flying.. the style of flying you like is what I fondly refer to as LRS style, cause back when most of us were flying v1 that's how we used to fly - balls to the wall and guns blazing, and it was much fun -- and still is. However, there is still much fun to be had. It took me a while, but after v2 came out I learned to enjoy flying a little more stealthier, even though it took a while. I actually enjoy hunting down 5-agl-ers now and beating them at their own game: there are a few guys that are extremely hard to beat, but most of them aren't too good at keeping their chopper completely still. so when you sneak around behind them as soon as they turn the chopper they are more likely to be killed. My fav way to accomplish that is to pick a mountain and bounce my sound off it while flying backwards to get to where I want to be, which fools most of them. And to attack, its important to get a little height by doing the evasive maneuver. Also, its fun to start with guns cause for some reason that tends to spook them to move also. heehee The same tactic works pretty good to sneak up on hill farpers too, although its often hard to bounce the sound properly when they are on the other side of the hill, but I find that flying backwards while popping over to attack them often fools them. These are tactics that I have never shared with anyone but my teammates till now, but thought you might find humorous cause I don't recall ever seeing you fly that way. At any rate, my only point it that there is still much fun to be had, and even with the hill farpers and agl-ers, its possible to still have a good time, cause even with the problems the game has had it still is a blast, at least for me.
regards,
nak
Well Nak, I might have found my own fix for the camper problem, In my own server anyway. I started running a 1H server. If your camping and it only takes 1 hit to kill you, well it isnt a pretty sight. And actually I think its a more realistic game this way. Most the people that have tried it like it. I know I do. LOL If you know how to fly you can still avoid stingers by strafing. If you don't know how then you can sit and be a target or start learning.
Oh yeah, I'm almost finished with the other map I was telling you about. Maybe later today or tomorrow. Depends on how lazy I'm feeling. LOL

by the way, I know everyone thinks that c4 is dying, and it may be true, but besides the hard core guys still around, there are pilots that are coming out in places you might not expect. I discoverd this while debugging my own version of the c4servers list cause it makes a local log of servers for quick country look-up. In the last few days the log showed servers popping up in Lithuania, Poland, China, and a couple other slavic countries. Just thought you'd like to know that the supply of pilots isn't completely untapped ! :agree.gif:C4League (http://home.comcast.net/%7Ec4league/)

You know my answer for popups
Is to rember the spot that they popup in!!
then time your passives for when they will do the popup, because usually they will drop down behind the hill as you first approch and then attempt the popup at you
But justice is Sweeeeet when you get them with passivs first that will teach the pesky buggers!!
and it prolly works about 8 ot of 10 times and they learn not to try popups again!! hehehe lol
Sorry So Dam. I disagree with you. All it really does is make them move behind a different hill or group of trees. The problem is that they never learned how to actually fly and thats the only way they can get points. So you have to find the new place they pitched there tent and get them again. By that time they have got 3 or 4 kills. So its not bad if you can get 3 or 4 kills to 1 death and never actually learn to play the game huh.

R~A~B you are 100% correct. I too long for the old days, when there was a 1 or 2 point diff. in matchs or games instead of 20, 30 or even 40. I got the game when it came out and OH it was so much fun, then came 8h and 3h, but INSO came out with a fix for that, and that lasted for some time. Dam it was a lot of fun!!! But for about the last year or year and a half we have the pilots and squads that can double your score in a game or match and still say they are not doing anything funny ( won't call them cheaters ) and I think the ones that are left in C4 have except it rather than say some thing is not right. But if you have to do it to win, so be it, I feel sorry for these guys. I realy want to play the game so bad until I get in a server and then see whats going on and have to leave. I think all we can do is thank NOVA.

:lol4: I use to be pretty good at killing popup, campers or whatever found them to be easy avoid them make them move to get a kill. Attack them with stealth and kill them..
Most important in that game is listen. When they are sitting not moving the sound is diffrent just like when chopper is flying away from you or at you.
Avoid them is the most fun makes them move and like you said they can't fly so they DIE!!! :LolLolLolLol:

Another thing that seems to be happening more and more is pilots suiciding to avoid being killed. I would expect this kind of thing from newbies maybe but it seems that quite a few squad members have taken a liking to this. They seem to think it's funny but I can assure you, you lose a lot of respect. I'm with you Rab, this game has really changed and NOT for the good.
It seems to me suiciding is cutting there own throats. It not only gives you another death but also takes a point away from your score. But with some of the things I've seen lately I'm really not suprised. I feel the way Red Baron does. I really want to play but when I get into a server.... Well it just isn't much fun anymore.

Rgr that. I do recognize the name. Has been a while since I've seen it. But a good player from what I can remember.
Hey Blue, While I have your attention here. I was wondering about one of your mods. The planet with the moving satalites. How hard would that be to add it into BHD. I've started making some maps for that now and really liked that one. I noticed with your C4 mods. Even those that didnt have them installed could still enter the server. Just couldnt see the oblects. I had a few ideas where I could use that on a couple maps that would look kewl but wouldnt effect the game play if you didnt have the item in your pff files. Was wondering if i could extract it from the C4 pff and add it to BHD with the Ravens PFF Editer. If not its no big deal.

I'm not sure it would work with just a move from one pff to the other. The 3DI's are different - though BHD might be able to read the C4 3DI. Ummm... the wife and I are going going to take 'the boys' (our dogs) for a walk. When I get home, I'll make the mod compatable for BHD. I'm thinking of adding some light to the 'nucleus'..and the the 'electrons' - to make it visible at night. Let me know if that suits you.
LOL It that all you got. Geeeeez  Well hell I guess in a pinch it would have to do. Oh by the why did i ever happen to tell you your F(censored)G AWSOME.

Please don't quit before I have even started playing the game, lol... I need to finish some TXP2 work for DF2 (from 1 to x months, in progress), then buy a new joystick (broke (literarily) the last one a few years ago when trying to do a 360 turn playing Need4Speed Porsche, lol), and then I'll be good to go for C4, as well as other 'forgotten' Novalogic games, as for instance AF1/2/3, F16, Mig29, F-22 1/2/3 + R, C1/2/3, etc... Any suggestions for which joystick to buy...? Are the wireless ones any good...?
I'd say the Logitech 3D Pro. It's basicly the same as the wireless. I had a couple of the wireless sticks and they worked great. Well for a while. But after time mine and I know some other people that had the same problem. You would be flying along and the reciever would seem to loose synch with the stick. Would give you 3 to 5 seconds of dead stick. More then enough time to die when in the middle of a strafe.
I Don't know how much you have played but when you want to get into the game let me know. I would be more then happy to show you what ever you want to know about the game. That happens to be one part of the game i really enjoy. I've spent many a hour on a second server after pulling Griffons out of my main server. If I see someone struggleing in the game and can tell they really want to learn, I usually offer to teach. When I first got in C4 I had alot of people take the time to help me. And I enjoy returning the favor whenever I can

Thanx for the quick reply, RAB! I've wanted to play this game for a long time, but never really got the time for it. Will try to finish my duties for TXP2/DF2 as fast as possible, but it might take several months or more, since I'm into some hard work decoding of the 3di format and coding some utilities to get the stuff into TXP2 for DF2 the way I want it to be...
I haven't been playing C4 (or the earlier versions) at all, only started them up to see they were running ok, and then quit, since I didn't have a joystick. I've also downloaded the add-ons posted in here, but I haven't installed any of them yet. I'll be sure to look you up in the future when I'm ready to start playing. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that C4 will stay alive, just as DF2, since I have a feeling Novalogic haven't made any better games than those two.
LOL Well in one way your lucky. I happen to be someone with not much of a life. Even if it takes you months to finish what your working on. Chances are I'll still be around. As for C4 I'm not so sure. theres all of 6 people in the servers on a friday night. BHD usually has around 2000+ about now. C4 has always been a small community but never this small. But even if its not around and you want to learn. You can always connect by IP to my server.

Btw - have you ever played DF2...? Lol, it's never too late starting to recruit, hehe... S&D game type is where the action goes, if you'd be interested... Don't play on Nova servers... too many cheaters in there... rather play on public servers of wellknown squads, which might be moderated... RAB... the collision for that particular item needs some tweaking. It appears that the small collision boxes that worked for C4 don't fit BHD too well. I'll work on this this weekend and get back to you on it.
OK, continue on...
(A word of caution RAB - you will be a very old man - and still learning - if you plan on learning everything that Q-Dad knows about DF2 )

Would be kewl if you could get it to work. If not then no prob either. Was just a thought. I don't know what you would have to go through to make the changes but if it's alot of work then don't worry about it. I'm sure you have enough of your own ideas to work out.

I've got DF2 but never really played it. I've installed it before and run through the game a little but not for long. The game came in one of Novas multi game sets along with C4, AF3, and F22 Lightning. I'm still real new in BHD and currently working on not going in and getting the lower rear of my anatomy handed to me every game. I do pretty good up to the point other people start coming into the server. I consider myself a worthy opponent in C4. But man I really hate being the noob again. But hell noob here or noob there. other than the occasional 8h-er, and the very few that have actually figured out how to cheat c4, I still think that c4 has the fewest cheats around, despite what some people think. Say what you will about how guys fly (or don't) since version 2 took over, they are still just tactics, and not cheats. I honestly think that everything wrong with the game (going invis, faster-than-designed firing rates, the new "spirit cheat" ) can be fixed server-side, and I am hopeful that these will be dealt with by the end of the year. I, for one, am going to do everything in my power to see that this game comes to be known as "the game that wouldn't die", and I know that there are still many others that feel the same. With all the processing power that the most of the servers have now a days, it should not be a problem to fix these issues, even with add-on embedded dlls, packet-filters, or whatever. Hopefully, sometime soon, there will be new threads from RAB and other great guys like him, entitled "I Un-Quit" !!
just my 2 cents

Personally after R~A~B going from C4, i have started to notice people who use the pop up tatic time and time again, over and over and over and over and over and over (im sure you get the idea) makes me sick!! to know that thease are the people who hade destroyed this fine game by making all the good guys quit.
Nak is right, yet again!! C4 has the fewest cheeters around (prolly because there are few people playing it now!!)
But personally i clapped with joy, the other day when <CoN> had a match with *CFS* every one with me at the time heard me clapping on TS and they were of the same mind, its not oftern you get to watch the kill counter at the end of a map!! because its ither one way or the other. but this game was so close it was unreal.
Moments like this, make the game what it is for those that play it still.
