Hello CheckPointDelta and C4 Community,
Long time reader, first time poster :) I have a major problem with my gaming PC and need some help.
I was on the Internet and a popup window came up. All I noticed about the popup window was an IP address on it. Instantly after that all my programs that were running shutdown, then my toolbar, then my desktop went blank, then my PC shutdown. When I start my computer, I get a message that reads, “Windows Login Process Terminated Unexpectedly” and then my computer restarts again.
I am able to login to my BIOS, if that is any help. Any help is much appreciated,
Nuggetman

hi nugget, looks like you computer is infected by a virus or some changes were applied by malware in order to keep your computer not working.
i would suggest to get and run a antivirus cd with a linux that runs completely from cd. if thats not available then either install a parallel installation of winXP on the same harddrive or array, then try to fix the prob from the new installation, scan and fix for viruses, trojans, spyware. or take the harddrive out of the computer and connect it to a working computer - can damage your working computer so be very carefull.
there is a linux distribution called knoppix (runable from cd) which only needs a good scanner with updated signatures (http://www.knoppix.org/).
was added to a german computer magazine c't, think you can order it.
hope it helps.
mail me if that doesnt work for ya.

No, I did not install w/xp sp2 on a shared copy of w/xp. In fact, I had to uninstall w/xp sp2 about 2-weeks ago because of sound problems when gaming; which sound problem were fixed after uninstall.
I was able to run the housecall scan using safe mode through Administration, cannot use safe mode with regular user name. The scan did find and destroy a few things, but cannot access 3 virus files called JAVA BYTEVER.A
Here is the error message I get when I try to logon to desktop:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x0000000)
The system has been shutdown.
Here is a link through Microsoft that talks about it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;156669&Product=winxp
I did call:
For Microsoft Product Support Services within the United States and Canada, call toll-free (866) PCSAFETY (727-2338).
Which they directed me to the same link you did: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
After I ran the scan and found the 3 viruses, Microsoft support was unable to help me remove the 3 well-hidden virus files. I am currently waiting to hear from a “high-level technician” from Microsoft to call back, should be in 24 hours.
Talk to one person who had the same virus and it fried parts of his mobo. :barfy:
I was recommended to install this patch to prevent the damage from getting any worse: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2354406C-C5B6-44AC-9532-3DE40F69C074&displaylang=en
After installing the patch, the error no longer shows when booting up. Although, when the PC boots up it just stays at the “welcome” screen for a couple seconds, then it goes to my regular desktop picture, but no tool bar or icons are showing, just the desktop picture, it was the same sight I last saw of my desktop when the virus hit.
After restarting in safe mode couple more times, I restarted PC again and it loaded my desktop with the icons and toolbars. I am not sure of the full damage the virus inflicted, but all my files can be reached again.

Yeah the BYTEVER.A is a very nasty virus it cleaned me out and now I got to get new parts for my pc because my ps2 ports do not work properly so there for Im going to have to do some more work for it so my helper and I decided that I was going to need a new mobo to solve the problem. But Nuggetman I do hope that you get these problems figured out.

I was able to get the remove all 3 JAVA BYTEVER.A viruses out of the PC by going here: http://java.com/en/download/help/cache_virus.jsp
I would assume my PC did suffer some damage, but I have yet to discover any problems. What are ps2 ports?
