I have an older version of Comanche 4. I want to be able to serve in version 2. How do I update my game so I can serve in version 2? I am not very knowledgeable about computers, so please explain in simple terms. I read other threads about this, but I did not understand what to do. Thank you for your help!!!!!!

You need to down load the no CD exe for version 2. Replace the 1.5 with it, The exe is located in the Nova/C4 folder where the game is installed on your hard drive. Then you can serve version 2. You will find the exe here at CPD.

I tried doing what you said and completely messed up everything. Like I said above, I am not knowledgeable about computers but I have an extremely fast Internet connection that would be great for serving.
Long story short, I messed things up so bad I had to uninstall the C4 game. I now have reinstalled it and did the “update games” and I will not make the next move until I exactly understand what I should do. I already wasted about 2 hours trying to figure this out.
Reaper, you said I need to load the “no CD exe” for version 2. I look at the CPD downloadable files and do not see anything that mentions “no CD.” Do you mean I should download the file called Comanche 4 V1.0.1.20 [US/ENGLISH] Fixed EXE?????...because that is the file I tried to install.
Also you said I need to replace the 1.5 exe file. I did not see any file type in my Novalogic, C4 folder that reads EXE. Do you mean the C4 Application file that is roughly 2.5 MB in size?? Is the EXE file the one with the color pictured of a comanche on it?...because that is the file I tried replacing.
Somebody please help me!!!!! Thank you much!!!

1. Install the game.
2. --VERY IMPORTANT --- DO THIS BEFORE REPLACING THE *.EXE. Update your game with the Comanche 4 Update 1.0.1.15 found on THIS PAGE. (http://www.checkpointdelta.net/cgi-bin/db.cgi?db=file&uid=default&Game=C4&view_records=1&sb=1&so=ascend&ID=*&mh=100)
3. Download and Install ( put in your C4 directory ) one of the Comanche 4 V1.0.1.20 [US/ENGLISH] Fixed EXE found on THIS PAGE. (http://www.checkpointdelta.net/cgi-bin/db.cgi?db=file&uid=default&Game=C4&view_records=1&sb=1&so=ascend&ID=*&mh=100)
I have tested\used both versions of the 1.0.1.20 files found on that page with my 1.0.1.15 version. They both work.
Whether you are computer literate or not, this is a very simple process. You are installing a game. You are using an integrated game update. You are navigating to your installation folder - (program files/novalogic/c4 ). And, you are replacing one file with another. There is no "setup".

Thank you very much Bluetiereign. I can now serve version 2 but now my C4.cfg file is messed up. I was able to serve on version 1.5 only if my "mp ServerGamePort" setting, which is loacted in the C4.cfg file, was set to 17200. I have my firewall open to 17200 for that PC, but for some odd reason it won't stay on 17200 in the c4.cfg file.
I have set the mp servergameport to 17200, then saved it. I restarted the C4 game, and no one can join. I go back to my c4.cfg file to check the setting, and the mp servergameport is set back to 0. I have tried this several different times and everytime the port setting goes back to 0, how can I get it to stay 17200???

Ok Sniper I should have prob gave you step by step instructions.
You down loaded the rite file. Since you had to reinstalled the game I am going to start again in case the reinstalle has a prob to. When you did the the uninstall you should have deleated the c4 folder after the game was uninstalled. If you did not there will be files still in the folder that will stay there when you reinstall again. You need a clean folder to reinstall. Or the game can have
probs.
If the following fails you may need to uninstall and reinstall again.
first make sure your 1.5 game is updated. Dont do it through nova down load the update from here. Novas may have a sniffer added that will mess up your game when you use the no cd patch ie the version 2 fixed exe you already down loaded. To server version 2 this file is needed.
Next open the c4 folder and find the c4 exe file. There are 2 one for lan games and one for multi player. It's the one with the game icon on it that says c4. deleat the c4 exe file.
Now go to the fixed exe zip you down loaded already. Open the zip file and exstract it to the c4 folder. DON'T COPY AND PASTE IT for some reason that will not work. It must be exstacted by the zip program. .
Next open the c4 folder. The new version 2 fixed exe file should be there. right click it and create a short cut to the exe and drag it to you desk top. Make sure any fire wall has the exe file enabled so it will run. Turn off any anti virus program and use the short cut to start the game. It should work now.

The config file does not work the same way with version 2 when you make changes they dont stay.
By reenabling the fire wall program to let c4 run again should solve the problem tho.

I just did exactly what you said Reaper. I uninstalled my game again, then reinstalled it, updated it using the CPD update, then installed the ver 2 Fix from CPD. The no cd patch is working great now, but..............I still have the same problem with the port settings.
I have a linksys firewall/router, I am able to control what ports are open and closed. I have 17200 open, for serving C4, but it will only work if the C4.cfg file setting, mp servergameport is set to 17200, otherwise it will not let anyone in my server.
Any suggestions since the cfg file does not work the same as in version 1.5????
I am sooooo close, but yet I feel so far away.
I appreciate all your help!!!
You guys are my only hope, I will check back every 30 seconds to see I received a reply. lol

I found the c4.cfg file, edited the port setting to 17200 and saved the file. Then I right clicked on the c4.cfg file, went to properties and changed it to a ->Read Only<-.
I then ran a Version .20 server and exited. The c4.cfg was unchanged.
You might be able to run this way... but will likely have to change it back from ->Read Only<- to adjust any other settings.

You can put the server in the dmz. That would solve ur prob. But then the pc is open to attack. I just checked and my ports in the config file are default at 0 also. For version 1.5 Another option is DMZ for the router. Then enable a soft ware fire wall on the machine set to let the game play. The router is why players can not join I would say.

Well, by making the c4.cfg file also a read-only, it kept the mp servergameport to 17200 and it stayed that way even when I setup a server, BUT……….. it still was unable to let players enter the server. I did not have that problem when serving version 1.5.
I did do the DMZ for the server, which opens all the ports, and it allowed players to enter. But I do not feel comfortable opening all the ports to the server.
I wonder why making the mp servergameport = 17200 worked on ver 1.5 and not on ver 2??
Good news is I am able to serve on version 2, which was my main goal!!!
Bad news is I will lose sleep knowing that all my ports are open and someone can attack me. I will leave a light on tonight when I sleep.
If anyone can give me any suggestions on how to serve without opening all the ports, DMZ style, that would be wonderful!!!
FYI: My router has a lot of different options, many of which I have no clue of their function, which can be altered.
If I had to take a guess on what the problem is, I would think the “mp servergameport” in the c4.cfg file is not functioning properly, as it did in ver 1.5.
Also, WiperSix is looking for Inso, lets help him find Inso.
WiperSix, I have a loud voice, I will yell for him…….IIIIIINNNNNNSSSSSSOOOOOO, are you out there???

Put a software fire wall on the server. Zone alarm is free. You can enable the c4 program to run and players should be able to join. The other ports will be closed so you will be safer.
