Whats up with the new demo. Its as laggy as hell, even with all detail turned down to low. I can only play on servers now with a few people not 100 like on the beta, and i have broadband.

and

These things might help determine the source of your troubles.

The demo runs better than the beta demo. Loads faster and is pretty smooth.

2.40 proc
512 mb533 ram
9700tx radeon
game set at 1024 x 768 res with settings between high and normal.
119 line Cable connection average speed is 335 up 1200 down.

I am using end it all to shut some start up programs down before I play.
Jester and I voice over yahoo while we play,
I am getting anywhere between 30 and 50 frames a second.
I could still use some more memery tho.
The game looks done to me. And Is all I hoped for so far.
I know what I am going to be doing the 16th. This game rocks.

I did have problems which I've now fixed by taking the following steps in the Options -> Video menu.

Leave resolution at 1024x768 (or whatever you normally play in) and Wide Screen = No.
In the "Advanced" menu underneath, change settings to the following:

Left hand column
Terrain Poly Detail = Low
Terrain Texture Detail = Low
Object Poly Detail = Low
Object Texture Quality = Low
Full Screen Antialias = 4

Right hand column
Water Quality = Low
Shadows = Off
Particle Density = Low
Frame Effects = Normal
Texture Filtering = Bilinear

Save the settings within the 10 second time limit and then go to the "Paradise Green 1" server. This is one of the 100 player servers that seems to be more efficient than others. There were 16 players there when I arrived.
Forward movement is OK, but looking to one side causes a little bit of jerkyness, but it's acceptable.

Another setting unrelated to the game is your network adapter. This can be either a separate card or onboard i.e. the chipset is incorporated into the motherboard. In any event, you need to go to Device Manager, click the "+" to the left of "Network adapters" and then double click the network card to get the "Properties" menu. There should be a tab there called "Power Management". By default, the setting is "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" with a checkmark in the field to the left of it. You need to remove that checkmark so that the network card always has full power.

I also discovered a port setting in the "game.cfg" file in the JO directory. Open the file with Notepad (but make sure you remove the checkmark first) and then scroll down to the section "MULTIPLAYER" and you'll see these two settings (among others)
mpgateserverlocalportmin = "49152"
mpgateserverlocalportmax = "65536"
You need to change the second one to "65535" because there isn't a port numbered 65536 on any Windows machine and a setting that doesn't exist may possibly cause problems with your firewall.

To get the game to run properly with a firewall running in the background, right click the desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Performance -> move the slider all the way to the left, click OK and and then reboot. If you've already tried running the game with a firewall running, you need to remove jodemo.exe from the Program List in the firewall setup first.

When the PC boots to the desktop, launch the game and the firewall should display an alert on top of the JO launch screen when it tries to connect to Nova. You can then give the game proper access permission.
Go back to the "Performance" tab and move the slider all the way to the right -> click OK -> Reboot.

To eliminate it as a h/w problem, choose to host a password protected server yourself. If the game runs smoothly with just you in it, then your h/w is not at fault and it's just a case of tweaking the game a little as mentioned above.

Lag has calmed down a bit. Not so bad when no so many people in game. But the odd thing is, I use to be able to join 100+ player servers on the beta demo no problems.

All settings are low, Anti-An is switched off.

the joys of games sometimes the fix is worst than the cure.....

it could be just a bad install...or a run of bad luck try reinstalling it..or roll back to a differant video driver set...i know my fps suck on this game but it still rocks...

Could be some settings are a bit diff and you don't notice it. Jes is rite about the ram. The more the better. The new demo is loading much faster for me than the first one. I also had alot of times I couldn't even log in to the beta testing at diff times. I'm gonna put my game settings down maybe it will help.

res set to 1024 X 768

Antialias is off-------I would make sure on this one

terrain poly = normal

terrain texture = high

object detail = normal

object texture = high

texture filtering = triliner----I would make sure on this 1 also

water,shadows,particle density, frame effects = normal

my frame rates run between 30 and 50 depinding on the action the card must render.

I know this is silly but I would reboot before I play also. Some times it's the little things that help.

I hope you get it going. Jo is alot of fun.
I'm also going to give you a link to down load end it all. It will shut down some stuff msconfig misses.
