Hmmm..don't know whats funnyer, that I said silly stuff like this or that I'm re-reading old posts, I must be bored.

I guess it's safe to say I'm not using that old Packard Bell any longer but I'm sure compared to most people here what I'm using now might not be the greatest...anyway here goes.

Beats mine by a mile. I just bought a GeForce 6800GS 256MB graphics card...I can run settings in BF2 on high with little or no frame loss on-line.

Hard to believe just a graphics card could make so much of a difference. I've gone through all my old games to see what they look like...C4 looks killer, BHD...gonna reinstall Joint Ops this week for he heck of it. I upgraded my powers supply to 400w to help with the extra power connection on the graphics card.

I should have gone 64bit when I first upgraded this but I'm pretty satisfied with what I got right now...well until Bluetiereign gets around to sending me his computer anyway!:wink1:

Sorry Charger, all my 64bit systems have been taken already. The wife has laid claim on the 'old' AMD3700+ system. My parents are getting the 'ancient' AMD3200+ that started this idiocy.

The sad part - the FX-60 will be 'obsolete' in May when the M2 arrives, bringing with it the FX-62.

I'm still hoping this setup will last a couple of years.

Sceptre 24" LCD -- 1920 x 1200

A couple of footnotes -- 4 more gigs of RAM on the way - I just wanted to make sure this RAM played nice with this motherboard. 2 more WD Sata HD's on the way... just wanted to see if all of this was going to work first - as I get older, I get more sceptical. Anyway...

I load up 3DMark05 and get some frustrating results. I cannot figure out why the score is so low - compared to the FX60 with a 7800GT. I can load up Crysis and FarCry2 with Very High and Ultra High Setting with 2X(AA) without a problem - it is unreal. Even with the Dual 8600GT's running in SLI - I couldn't have any settings on High - without taking such a huge framerate hit, the games were miserable to even play.

I can't figure it out. Anyway, here are the results.

For real, nice system there duder. The only upgrade I've made in the past few years was a 7800GS which plays all the games I'm interested in real Nice on moderate settings. I am somewhat envious of your system and can imagine how great the graphics must look with such games as Crysis and Farcry2. My son has a dual core, PCI express Nvidia 8800GT, 4Gigs of Memory and I've seen some amazing graphics on that so I can imagine what your getting.

The difference is much better graphics - lighting and shadows.

You also beat me in 3dMark06. Score posted below.

Since yesterday - and after talking to MasterX - who also has a Black Edition - I discovered a couple of things. Number One... I am running an nVidia card on an AMD chipset. Not the smartest thing to do - since AMD owns ATI.

Secondly, Vista machines do better in DirectX 10 environments - which neither Mark05 or Mark06 use.

What I do know is that I can play Farcry2 and Crysis on Ultra High Settings with AA running and never break a sweat. The CPU's sit at 50°C while playing both of them. The Video doesn't lag at all... it is really fun to play and look at.

There are some people submitting those scores who scored 45,000 on machines OC'd to 6Ghz. All l I've been chasing is a good video experience since FarCry (the first one) made my 6800GT AGP beg for mercy. I'm happy now...I finally caught up.

Chasing the latest upgrades can become addicting as well as expensive.

That's all I'm really looking for. And while what I've got isn't the best out there it will run about anything out right now. And I have the option to upgrade (quad core CPU, 2nd or 3rd video card) at a later time. I got almost 5 years out of my last build with an upgrade here and there. Hopefully this one will last as long.

Though I've set out to do a complete upgrade I settled for upgrading components instead, which I've had for a few years now and still does ok. How things change... That's very true! I started playing C4 with dial-up, on a Gateway 800 Delux that only had 512MB memory when it came, and could only take 768 max..or something like that.
It had a 32mb vid card, that I upgraded to a 64mb, and then to a Nvidia 5200 with a whopping 256mbs... My biggest upgrade.. CABLE INTERNET (Woo Hooo) LMAO Once I had cable, that made all the difference... I could actually see who killed me (sometimes) and I learned to die alot faster...LOL

Man, that seems like a lifetime ago...

Ah the old days! Wait that was last week! I started playing C4 on a Compaq with 1.4ghz AMD, 256mb with integrated 32mb Nvidia graphics and on dial up. Shortly after joining CFS I upgraded to DSL(still have, Verizon, not a power house but bulletproof and reliable). The only other thing I ever did to that machine was a 256 AMD Radion Graphics card Uncle Meat sent me. I used that machine up untill last year, when I got a "better" machine...except its not user friendly with C4 and doesnt like the macro settings on my Saitek Cyborg evo...the right combo of buttons pressed together makes the machine reboot:regan:...very upsetting. It will kick me out of the game interm while playing, right to my desktop. Its a HP P4 2.8ghz 2gb ram nvidia 512 card. Plays everything else of, just doenst like my stick profile and is finiky with C4....if I hadnt given my old PC to my daughter I would still play C4 on it.

WOW Pretty big difference with the dual channel mode on the ram.

Well now that you made it to the 21st century. What games you going to play.

LOL...

Well I thought I'd play RainbowSix Vegas 2, FlightSimX, F.E.A.R., Battlefield 2142, Call Of Duty-World At War, Left4Dead, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and a few others I haven't installed in this yet...all the games I've been playing right along but now with maxed graphics and no lag to speak of. :thumb:

LOL I don't have any of those.

I've been playing alot of Call of Duty 4. They have an awsome paintball mod for it. Here's some video I took of a game.

LOL Getting video like that is one thing I couldn't do before I rebuilt this PC. Would lag me out way to bad.

Yeah I got Call Of Duty World At War as a freebee with my 9800...Its an okay game but I would have liked COD4 instead. I just tried out F.E.A.R. 2 Demo and thinking about getting that since I have the first one and expansions, pretty sick game thats for sure.

I think I'll split this thread for this discussion and move the hyperthreading problems to the C4 forums. As time passes, it is going to hard to find 'rig specs' in this thread.

It busted my budget for about 50 bucks plus I went with a single vid board instead of the SLI to get the 1066.........:regan:......but I've been about 2 years behind the eight ball my whole gaming life:brutal173.gif:.....its going to be great to check out a newer game and say "wow that looks cool, I think I'll try it!" lol..........matter of fact UBI has a new fighter sim due out in march called 'HAWX' a TOM CLANCY title that looks sweet.......some nice CO-OP options(nice for the wifey an I)....COD4 is finally an option now too!....YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!:alcoholic. gif::spin:

I've been playing games like RainbowSix Vegas and Ghost Recon and compaired to running them on this computer over my old computer they seem like differnt games all because I can now max out most of the settings and get the "Quality" and "Preformace" on both ends.

The hard drive is a 250 gig. One of the drives I use for back ups and things I want to save if I do a reformat. LOL Which is why it's only connected to the card that came in the external drive case. I got tired of taking it apart to change drives.

You know I always love getting new parts. But the time it takes after a new OS install has got to be the worst part ever. It's not just having to install the programs again but having to remember what it was you had installed. Most of the time I remember right about the time I want to use it again. LOL

This is an awesome build RAB. It would be a waste for me to upgrade ATM, as I'm not really gaming much. I've kept my 'upgrade' money, and started considering buying a 750 Shadow instead. Still tossing it back and forth. Good to see you.

Cost per GB is high but if used for a OS drive and a handful of programs the speed increase is amazing.I plan on migrating my 1 TB drive to that pc for storage. That pc can overclock like mad.At 4GHZ it don't break a sweat.

I'll never give up my ol'Packard Bell. 54MHz of raw power baby! Two 5.25 floppy's and a 12baud modem. You guys shouldn't be jealous of my rig, not everybody can handle this much in one sitting. So what if I can't play any real games off it. The For/Next loops are amazing for this type of technology. Why just the other day I got a stick figure to do the "wiggle-wiggle-wiggle". Eat that my brothers and keep your fancy machines with your high tech zippy do da's... :smug:

Hello BTR, saw a new post and had to look.
I still come by weekly, just don't log-in. Don't know if I will ever build or buy a new gaming rig with the way things change and most games being developed for console now. But it's good to see you comment old friend.

Take care.

Hey Reaper, thanks for dropping in. It is good to see you. I love my eye candy, and the PC (for me anyway) still offers the best experience. I use my computers to generate extra income, so I'm OK with spending a little on them. The 'old' rig was 6 years old, and still able to do about anything I wanted when it died. Unfortunately, much of my storage was in a raid 0 array, so I lost some data. I'm now recovering that using the FX60 system listed in this thread that I built in 2006. It has a replaced identical motherboard, but is still a workhorse. It is interesting to look back. I'm actually writing this reply on a quad core/six gig laptop that I would have never dreamed of even seeing when this thread was started 12 years ago. :) Take care my friend. Stay in touch.
